Toontrack EZX Southern Soul

What the Toontrack Expansion Pack Is For

This expansion pack is designed to enrich your Toontrack virtual drums with a "vintage" palette typical of the 60s/70s. It is aimed at producers, composers, and drum programmers seeking organic, warm, and dynamic sounds suited to pop, rock, singer-songwriter, soul, or reggae aesthetics. Thanks to the provided MIDI grooves/fills, you can quickly build a song structure, test different playing intentions, and finalize a coherent performance from verse to chorus without starting from scratch.

Main Features

Two Recording Approaches for Two Sonic Signatures

The kits are offered in two recording configurations inspired by studio methods of the 1960s/1970s. The goal is to provide you with two complementary interpretations of the same kit: one option more direct and impactful, and another more open, more "roomy," ideal for capturing the depth and naturalness of vintage productions. You choose the configuration best suited to your arrangement, then fine-tune the balance in your mix, just like with a real drum session.

5 Complete Drum Kits for Wide Stylistic Coverage

The content includes 5 complete kits from iconic brands such as Ludwig, Gretsch, Pearl, and Sakae. This variety allows you to switch from a round, woody sound to a more crisp and articulated character, depending on the snare, toms, and playing intention. The pack is particularly relevant if you alternate between multiple projects and need distinct, immediately credible timbres.

Included MIDI Grooves and Fills for a Fast Workflow

The included MIDI files help you achieve realistic performances without tedious programming. Drag and drop a groove, adjust the tempo, test variations, then complete with fills to create natural transitions. It's an effective working base for sketching, producing, or delivering polished demos, while retaining the ability to edit velocity, quantization, and articulations in your sequencer.

Recognized Studio Expertise

The pack is produced by Glenn Rosenstein (associated with artists like James Taylor, U2, Ziggy Marley) and recorded by Jeff Balding (Faith Hill, Brad Paisley, Céline Dion). This dual expertise results in a careful capture designed to integrate easily into a modern mix while preserving the grain and musicality of 60s/70s sounds.
