A "pocket" preamp designed as a premium DI for piezo
The Triton BigAmp Piezo takes a different approach from the classic instrument preamp: instead of seeking high gain, it focuses on impeccable impedance matching and very low noise Class A electronics. The result: it acts as an essential link between a piezo pickup (often demanding) and a console, mic preamp, or audio interface, offering a balanced output and more faithful sound reproduction. Its miniature format also allows easy integration into any setup without turning your pedalboard or flycase into a complicated rig.
Who benefits from the BigAmp Piezo and in which applications it makes a difference
This preamp is aimed at musicians and technicians using piezo pickups (violin, double bass, cello, acoustic guitar equipped with a piezo, bridge sensor instruments, etc.) who want a more "open" and faster sound without artificial harshness. On stage, it secures the connection to the front of house thanks to the balanced XLR output and low output impedance, reducing hum and signal loss over long cable runs. In the studio, it becomes a simple tool to capture a usable piezo take, with better transient response and a very wide frequency range.
A design dedicated to the constraints of piezo transducers
A piezo transducer typically has a very high impedance, often well beyond what standard "Hi-Z" inputs offer. When the input impedance is too low, you lose level, transients, and precision, and cable capacitance can accentuate a low-pass filter effect that dulls the signal. The BigAmp Piezo was designed to directly address this issue with an input impedance of 7.5 megaohms, allowing the pickup to deliver its full potential without being stifled.
Controlled gain: 3 dB to maximize headroom
Rather than adding a lot of gain (often synonymous with noise and premature saturation), the BigAmp Piezo limits amplification to 3 dB. This choice preserves a large headroom and keeps the signal clean, especially useful on instruments with sharp attacks and fast peaks. Combined with a Class A FET stage, the result is a discreet but high-quality amplification that highlights details and definition.
Low impedance balanced output: cleaner, more reliable
A piezo signal often comes out unbalanced via jack, which can become noise-sensitive on stage or with longer cables. With its 3-pin balanced XLR output, the BigAmp Piezo converts your signal into a more robust connection, suitable for live environments, studio patch bays, and connections to mic preamps, splitters, and consoles.
Phantom power: no batteries, no stress on tour
The circuit is powered by 48 V phantom power (a 24/48 V phantom power supply is required). This is a concrete advantage: no batteries to monitor, no voltage drop during a set, and immediate integration into standard console or interface setups equipped with phantom power.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Triton Audio BigAmp Piezzo suitable for a violin or double bass with a piezo pickup?
Its input impedance of 7.5 megaohms is designed for piezo transducers on violin, double bass, cello, or acoustic guitar. This value limits level loss and preserves the transients of the pickup.
What power supply is required for this piezo preamp?
Power is supplied by 24 or 48 V phantom power via the XLR connection. No battery is needed.
Can a piezo pickup be connected directly to a mixing console?
The balanced 3-pin male XLR output enables connection to a console, microphone preamp, or audio interface. Converting an unbalanced jack signal to a balanced signal reduces noise sensitivity over long cable runs. The low output impedance facilitates integration into stage or studio patching.
What is the gain of the BigAmp Piezzo?
The gain is set at 3 dB. This moderate amplification preserves headroom against fast transients from piezo-equipped instruments.
What connectors are available on this preamp?
The input uses a female 6.3 mm jack and the output a balanced 3-pin male XLR. The specified frequency response ranges from 10 Hz to 100 kHz at ± 1 dB.
