What is u-he Filterscape for?

u-he Filterscape is designed for producers and sound designers who want to go beyond the simple "low-pass filter." It is used both to sculpt a mix (cleaning, accentuation, frequency dynamics) and to create expressive effects (phasing, transitions, rhythmic pulses, moving textures) as well as to animate timbres in a very musical way.

Depending on the module used, Filterscape can act as a modular effects plugin to add movement to a loop, bus, or synth; as an automatable morphing equalizer for section changes (verse/chorus/break); or as a virtual instrument capable of generating evolving and articulated sounds, ideal for electro, modern pop, ambient, film scoring, or any production focusing on texture and modulation.

Main features

Filterscape FX: multi-mode filtering, morphing EQ, and flexible routings

Filterscape FX combines a multi-mode filter section and a 4-band parametric EQ designed for modulation. The two parallel filters (low-pass, band-pass, high-pass, notch) can be blended via a "blender" control: you can switch from one mode to another seamlessly, and even blur the boundaries between behaviors to achieve effects close to allpass, perfect for phasers and subtle phase movements.

The morphing EQ offers several modes ranging from very surgical (LS-Peak-Peak-HS structure) to more creative configurations (multi-bandpass, panned bands). Each band can be modulated locally (at the snapshot level) and globally, allowing the construction of complex frequency trajectories without multiplying automations.

Morphable snapshots: transitions, breaks, and simplified automation

The principle of 8 snapshots is at the core of the workflow: you create different "scenes" of EQ/filtering, then morph between them. In production, this becomes a powerful tool to program clean transitions, build-ups, verse-to-chorus variations, or "continuous movement" effects on a pad or soundscape. In a DAW, automating the snapshot index allows controlling rich changes with a single curve.

Synchronized modulation: sequencers, LFOs, and envelope followers

Filterscape FX includes music-oriented modulation tools: host-synced sequencers (up to 16 steps, with glide), host-sync LFOs with multiple waveforms, and envelope followers to make the processing react to the signal's level or groove. The result: you can lock a wobble, a filter pulse, or an EQ breathing exactly to the tempo, or trigger movements based on the real energy of the track.

Additionally, essential elements for modern production are included: stereo delay (independent times per channel) and several routing options between delay, filter, and EQ to quickly adapt the signal flow to the goal (insert effect, more "mix" processing, experimental texture, etc.).

Filterscape Q6: 6-band morphing equalizer and frequency dynamics

Filterscape Q6 builds on the core morphing EQ of Filterscape FX and extends it to 6 bands by adding low and high shelf filters. The idea is to achieve sophisticated equalization capable of continuous transformation while remaining clear and quick to automate. The frequency-dependent envelope followers allow the curve to react to specific spectral zones: useful for "living" equalization, musical corrections that follow the performance, or tonal movements without crushing naturalness.

For mixing and sound design, Q6 excels when you want an equalizer that is not static: a timbre that opens up on a chorus, a texture that changes color during a break, or a bus that "sculpts" itself automatically according to intensity.

Filterscape VA: virtual synthesis and polyphonic EQ morphing

Filterscape VA turns the concept into an instrument: two spectral oscillators with waveform and wavetable selection, plus modulation options (including phase modulation and FM) to expand the palette. The highlight remains the polyphonic EQ morphing: each note can carry its own timbre movement, opening the door to formant-like effects, comb filters, "infinite" phasers, and highly animated sounds ideal for leads, basses, drones, and cinematic textures.

With its playing modes (polyphonic, duophonic, monophonic, legato/retrigger), generators (sub-oscillator, noise), and effects (delay, chorus), VA covers both the role of a production synth and a texture machine for sound design.
