A Modern Heir to a Studio Standard
Designed based on the research of the UT Twin87, the UT Vintage87 maintains its component level and build quality while focusing on a single cardioid pattern. By removing the pattern selection, United achieves a warmer and purer response, close to the original German models, making this "87" accessible without sacrificing circuit integrity.
Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?
Versatile and robust, the UT Vintage87 is a studio "Swiss Army knife." It excels on lead vocals, voice-over, backing vocals, dialogue, and dubbing, but also shines on acoustic guitars, pianos, overheads, or amps (with pad). Its low noise sensitivity and generous transformer ensure a stable image, even with long XLR lines or very transparent preamps.
High-End Components, Highly Musical Results
Custom UT K87 Capsule
Machined from brass with a double isolated backplate, the UT K87 capsule features a 6-micron Japanese PET film, 24k gold-sprayed. This transducer core delivers a smooth response, clear transients, and a silky high end without harshness.
United "Large Core" Transformer
Custom-wound with large nickel laminations and a metallic mass nearly four times that of other "87" models, it avoids any output bottleneck, preserves bass, and handles high levels without compressing dynamics.
Discrete FET Circuit and Intelligent Controls
Hand-selected premium components (polystyrene, tantalum, multilayer ceramic, WIMA, metal film/carbon film resistors, sorted transistors) for an ultra-low noise floor. The switchable RF filter secures noisy environments, while the 80 Hz HPF and -10 dB pad optimize capture according to the source. Powered via standard +48 V phantom power.

Questions frequently asked
Cardioid studio microphone for vocals and voice-over?
The cardioid pattern and self-noise under 10 dB favor recording lead vocals and voice-over. The large diaphragm UT K87 capsule uses a 6 micron PET film coated with 24 karat gold.
Does the United Studio Technologies UT Vintage 87 operate on 48 V?
The microphone requires a standard +48 V phantom power supply via the XLR connector.
What sound pressure level can the UT Vintage87 handle on an amplifier?
The maximum sound pressure level reaches 117 dB at less than 0.5% THD. Activating the -10 dB pad raises this limit to 127 dB. This attenuation facilitates capturing louder sound sources, such as an amplifier.
What accessories come with this studio microphone?
A spider shock mount and a vintage-style pouch are included. The milled solid brass body, electroplated nickel, measures 220 mm long by 55 mm wide.
Does the UT Vintage87 have a low-cut filter and an RF filter?
A switchable RF filter secures capturing in radio frequency-heavy environments. The high-pass filter is set at 80 Hz with a 12 dB per octave slope.
