Developed by the team behind UA's most renowned tape machine plug-ins, Oxide focuses on the essentials: you select the tape speed (IPS), apply the desired emphasis curve, adjust the noise reduction, then control the amount of color with the Input and Output controls. The result: you quickly get usable saturation and dynamic behavior typical of tape, with a more "finished" mix feel.

Tape compression, saturation, and circuit overdrive

Oxide doesn't just "dirty up" the signal: it reproduces natural tape compression (which tames peaks and softens attacks) and harmonic coloration that helps elements sit in the mix. Pushing the input triggers more pronounced saturation and expressive overdrive, useful for adding bite to a snare, thickening a bass, making a vocal stand out, or adding grit to synths. Staying more conservative yields subtle warmth and a very effective sense of cohesion on buses (guitars, drums, backing vocals).

Two IPS speeds and two curves to shape character

The 7.5 IPS and 15 IPS selections let you navigate between different typical tape responses, playing with density, punch, and texture. The two emphasis curves offer color variations to tailor the sound to your arrangement: softer and rounder, or more present and energetic. This "few controls, lots of music" approach encourages you to decide by ear and stay in a creative flow.

Real-time "through tape" recording with Apollo

Oxide is designed to work equally well in mixing and tracking. If you use an Apollo interface, you can record with the feel of passing through a real analog chain, in real time. This is especially useful for guiding a performance (more controlled vocals, thicker guitar, tighter drums) and reducing mix time by starting with an already inspiring sound.
