Universal Audio Character in a Four-Channel Interface
The Volt 476 Recording Studio combines a desktop USB interface with the sonic colors that define Universal Audio. Within the Volt family, it offers more connection options than the Volt 276 thanks to two additional line inputs and four output channels. It retains two mic preamps, unlike the Volt 476P, which features four: an important distinction when choosing the right setup for your recordings.
For Recording Vocals, Guitar, and Your Hardware
This external audio interface is suitable for singer-songwriters, keyboard players, and producers who alternate between acoustic recordings and electronic instruments. For example, you can connect two sources on the front panel alongside a stereo synthesizer connected to the rear line inputs. The MIDI connections also let you integrate a keyboard or drum machine equipped with DIN connections, without using a separate USB MIDI connection.
For a project focused on vocals and guitar, the two main inputs accommodate microphones, line-level signals, and high-impedance instruments. Compatibility with Mac, Windows, iPad, and iPhone lets you use this setup across different systems, with the appropriate cabling or adapter for mobile devices.
Processing While Recording and Direct Monitoring
Vintage and 76 Compression: Choose Your Color Before Mixing
The Vintage Mic Preamp mode adds analog coloration inspired by the UA 610. The 76 compressor draws on the character of the famous 1176 limiter to give recorded sources greater solidity and presence. These treatments let you shape the character of a vocal or instrument while recording, rather than leaving all sonic decisions to the mixing stage.
Latency-Free Monitoring
Direct monitoring lets you hear the inputs without routing them through your recording software. On the Volt 476, source selection is handled in pairs, with a mono function to center the inputs in the monitoring mix. This is particularly convenient when singing or playing along with an already busy session, without depending on the buffer-size setting.
A Different Approach to Apollo Interfaces
The Volt 476 works with native audio software and plug-ins: it does not have a DSP for running UAD DSP plug-ins. Its strengths lie in its built-in analog processing and straightforward operation. The software bundle notably includes LUNA, along with a selection of Universal Audio and partner software, with activation depending on the terms associated with product registration.
