"56 Rue Lepic": a tribute to Vandoren's DNA
With the "56 Rue Lepic" series, Vandoren celebrates its iconic Parisian address and illustrates the brand's high standards in reed design. From cane cultivation to packaging, Vandoren controls all production stages, using a handcrafted process and an eco-responsible approach: cane waste from the multiple manufacturing operations is reused, notably as fertilizer or as fuel to heat the factory.
For which clarinetist and styles?
Designed for the Bb clarinet, the Vandoren 56 Rue Lepic reed is particularly suited for intermediate to advanced musicians seeking consistency and a dense sound output. It performs well in classical (homogeneity, intonation) as well as in jazz or wind orchestra settings (projection and clear attacks).
Sound and design
This reed stands out with a new conicity designed for optimal vibration, promoting a woody timbre and consistent response across all registers. The thick heel provides a stable support point, while the narrower strength grading aims for a coherent playing feel from one strength to another. The specified thicknesses (tip and heel) contribute to the balance between ease of emission, articulation precision, and stability in fortes.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Vandoren 56 Rue Lepic 3.5+ reed compatible with a Bb clarinet?
This reed is specifically designed for the Bb clarinet and is made from cane.
What playing feel does a 3.5+ strength offer?
The 3.5+ strength falls within a narrow grading range, indicated from 2 to 4 in this series. The 3.25 mm heel provides a stable support. The design aims for a consistent feel across different strengths.
What sound do the 56 Rue Lepic reeds produce?
The new taper promotes a woody timbre and a consistent response across all registers. The 0.11 mm tip contributes to the balance between projection, articulation, and stability in stronger reeds.
Are these reeds suitable for jazz and classical music?
This series is intended for intermediate to advanced clarinetists, for classical, jazz, and wind orchestra. The design is announced to support homogeneity and tuning accuracy, with clear attacks.
How many reeds does the box contain and how are they packaged?
The packaging includes 10 reeds in flow-pack to limit humidity variations and warping. After opening the package, no returns, refunds, or exchanges can be made for hygiene reasons.
