Vandoren Pack 5RV Lyre (Bb clarinet)

A Great Classic in the World of the Clarinet

The 5RV Lyre mouthpiece is part of the tradition of clarinet mouthpieces appreciated for their balance and versatility. Its profile is designed to preserve a natural playing feel, with controlled response and clear articulation. Combined with an M/O ligature and traditional cane reeds, this pack brings together the essentials sought by many clarinetists.

The M/O ligature combines the lightweight principles of the Master ligature with the efficient clamping of the Optimum ligature. It holds the reed securely while allowing it to vibrate freely. The supplied plastic mouthpiece cap protects the mouthpiece during transport between rehearsals, lessons or concerts.

A Pack for Developing Clarinetists

This pack is primarily intended for musicians playing Bb clarinet, from independent beginners through intermediate or advanced clarinetists. Strength 2.5 is a common compromise between ease of response, breath control and sound stability. It will suit many musicians, depending on their playing habits and instrument setup.

Thanks to its versatile character, this set can be used for classical, wind band, orchestral, popular, traditional jazz or chamber music repertoire. It allows players to work on dynamics, gentle attacks and articulation accuracy with a consistent setup.

Precise Response and a Balanced Tone

Made from ebonite, the mouthpiece offers a stable playing feel and an even response. Ebonite is a dense material frequently used for clarinet mouthpieces because of its pleasant touch and its ability to promote a centered tone. Its traditional style is suited to musicians looking for a clear, controlled and easily shaped sound.

Its 1.09 mm tip opening corresponds to the space between the tip of the reed and the tip of the mouthpiece. This opening provides a good balance between ease of response and precision. The medium top, meaning the surface of the mouthpiece on which the reed rests, contributes to an even response and reliable articulation across all registers.

The traditional strength 2.5 cane reeds stand out for their excellent response. Their cut provides good flexibility while supplying the resistance needed to support the sound. They facilitate pianissimo attacks, including in the high and altissimo registers, while preserving smooth continuity between the low, middle and high registers.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

This pack is intended for Bb clarinet. To preserve the performance of the mouthpiece and reeds, it is recommended to use a clarinet swab after each playing session, as well as a case that keeps the instrument and its accessories protected from impacts. A ventilated reed case can also help protect the cane reeds between uses.
