V12: a Vandoren reference designed for more sonic substance
The V12 reeds are cut from cane tubes with a diameter close to that used for alto saxophone, allowing for a thicker reed tip than traditional models. The result: more body at the attack, consistent response, and a sound presence that easily "fills" the room, in the spirit of a high-end Vandoren reed.
For which musician and styles?
These reeds are mainly aimed at intermediate to advanced clarinetists seeking stability and a dense sound. They are very suitable for classical music, orchestra, and chamber music, but also for popular music whenever a round and substantial sound is desired.
Sound and design
Thanks to their thickness, the V12 offer a deep timbre, good projection, and a feeling of resistance under the air. The thickest part adds weight to the attack and promotes better durability, while the vibration remains homogeneous across registers.
Recommended compatible accessories
To preserve response and longevity, a reed case (clarinet size) is highly recommended, as well as a swab to limit residual moisture inside the instrument after playing.

Questions frequently asked
Are Vandoren V12 3.5+ reeds compatible with a Bb clarinet?
This box contains 10 cane reeds intended for the Bb clarinet, with a strength of 3.5+.
What musical styles are V12 3.5+ reeds suitable for?
The V12 cut is recommended for classical, orchestral, and chamber music. Its deep tone and projection are also suitable for popular music when aiming for a round and consistent sound.
What is the difference in feel between a V12 and a traditional reed?
With a 3.15 mm heel and a 0.1 mm tip, the V12 offers more mass at the attack and pronounced resistance under the air. Vandoren’s scale indicates that a V12 strength 3 corresponds approximately to a traditional reed strength 2.5. Therefore, the 3.5+ strength is intended for sustained resistance.
How are the reeds protected inside the box?
Each reed is individually packaged in a flow-pack to protect it from humidity fluctuations before opening.
Can an opened box of V12 reeds be exchanged?
For hygiene reasons, an opened box cannot be refunded or exchanged.
