Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The Robert van Sice series by Vic Firth was born from the demands of an internationally recognized soloist and educator, aiming to offer marimba mallets with predictable behavior, capable of responding to a wide variety of dynamics and articulations. The M113 is positioned as a generalist model in the range: flexible enough to sing in the low register while maintaining the definition needed for concert repertoire.

Who This Drum/Instrument Is For

The Vic Firth M113 is aimed at intermediate to expert marimbists seeking a reliable mallet for daily practice, ensemble rehearsals, and stage performance. Its "medium soft" response is particularly suited for classical and contemporary contexts, lyrical pieces requiring legato, as well as more articulated passages needing a clear attack without aggressiveness. It is also an excellent choice for conservatory students looking for an all-purpose "go-to" pair oriented towards concert use.
