A "47" for Today: The WA-47jr's Place in the Warm Audio Lineup

The WA-47jr fits within Warm Audio's mission to make microphone colors that have become studio standards accessible. Whereas a historic "47" is associated with a tube architecture, the WA-47jr offers a simpler FET approach for everyday use: no dedicated external power supply, immediate operation on 48 V phantom power, and ideal stability for back-to-back sessions. Within the family, it positions itself as the modern and straightforward alternative to the tube WA-47, while retaining the sought-after sonic DNA thanks to a K47-type capsule.

Vocals, Instruments, Live and Broadcast: Who Is the WA-47jr For?

Designed for both the professional studio and the home studio, the WA-47jr targets those who want a large-diaphragm condenser capable of covering many situations without multiplying microphones. On vocals, it helps achieve a dense and clear sound with beautiful presence in the midrange. On acoustic guitar, piano, overheads, or room mics, its three polar patterns offer true placement freedom: cardioid to isolate, omnidirectional to capture more space, figure-eight to work in pairs or control side reflections. In live and broadcast settings, its low noise and ability to handle high SPL make it a reassuring choice, even when facing dynamic sources.

FET Design, K47 Capsule, and Integrated Controls: Big-Budget Sound Without the Hassle

A K47-Type Capsule for a Musical and Familiar Response

The WA-47jr features an in-house reproduction of the vintage K47 capsule, designed to replicate the behavior of classic references: same mounting pattern and a frequency response tailored for presence and body. The capsule (WA-47-B-80v) is shared with the tube WA-47, allowing the WA-47jr to maintain a coherent sonic identity within the lineup while offering a more modern electronic approach.

A Discrete Signal Path and Studio-Oriented Component Selection

The WA-47jr's topology favors a fully discrete circuit and a modernized FET design. The goal: precise reproduction, low noise level, and comfortable dynamics to capture both the nuances of vocal performance and the impact of an amp or drum shell. Warm Audio highlights the use of Toshiba FETs, Wima capacitors, and Panasonic electrolytic capacitors-a combination designed to maintain demanding sound quality at an accessible price point.

Pad and High-Pass Filter: Simple Tools for Cleaner Recordings

The -10 dB pad secures recordings when the source is very close or powerful (brass, guitar amp, percussion), while preserving comfortable headroom on the preamp. The 70 Hz high-pass filter helps reduce vibrations, handling noise, plosives, and excessive low frequencies related to the proximity effect, making recordings easier to place in the mix right from the capture.
