What Waves GTR Solo Is For
Waves GTR Solo is used to quickly recreate a credible and musical guitar (or bass) sound without going through a complex recording chain. It is aimed at guitarists who want to record clean and inspiring takes in a DAW, home-studiers looking for a reliable solution to compose and produce, and live musicians who need a stable, recallable virtual setup that is easy to control in real time. Thanks to its selection of amps, pedals, and cabinets with mic options, GTR Solo covers everything from dynamic clean tones to crunchy rock, up to more aggressive modern saturations.
Main Features
A "best-of" amp selection to play without getting lost
GTR Solo carries the "greatest hits" spirit of the GTR3 suite: the goal is to offer the essentials, with a refined modeling level, while keeping immediate usability. You have 2 clean amps for precise clean sounds, 3 overdrive amps for grain and attack, and 4 high-gain amps for powerful rhythms and sustained leads. Two custom models designed with Paul Reed Smith add a premium color, ideal for defined and expressive tones.
Integrated pedalboard: up to 4 effects, placed in the right spot
To replicate the logic of a real pedalboard, GTR Solo allows inserting up to 4 stompbox-type effects and choosing their position before or after the amp. This way, you adapt the saturation response (drive upstream) or the width and space (modulations and delays downstream) according to your workflow. The effects chain is easily rearranged via drag-and-drop, convenient for quickly testing multiple routings without breaking the creative flow.
ToolRack: a complete rig tailored for real-time use
The ToolRack module structures the whole setup as a ready-to-play rig, making GTR Solo particularly relevant for live contexts and sessions where you want to stay focused on performance. The ergonomics are designed to limit manipulations while keeping essential functions within easy reach. The software is also compatible with multipoint touchscreens, a real plus for controlling settings in a stage or control room environment.
Cabinets and mic options: coherence in the mix without complication
To finalize the sound as in a real guitar chain, GTR Solo includes a selection of guitar cabinets and bass cabinet, as well as microphone options. The idea is not to add endless menus but to provide effective combinations to place the guitar in the mix, control attack, and adjust brightness or thickness according to the style. This step is often decisive to move from a "correct" sound to one that immediately sits well in a production.
Tuner, tempo, and presets: ready to rehearse, record, play
An integrated guitar and bass tuner includes alternate tunings and user-defined tunings, convenient for switching from one song to another without relying on external tools. Time-based effects benefit from tap tempo and tempo sync functions, useful for locking delays and modulations to a project or live click. Finally, the 68 factory presets provide a solid starting point, then allow quick refinement based on your microphones, playing style, and musical range.
