What is Waves InPhase LT for?
Waves InPhase LT is a phase correction and alignment plugin designed to solve a very common issue in recording and mixing: two microphones (or two sources) capture the same signal with a slight delay, causing cancellations, loss of low end, less defined attack, and an unstable stereo image. By inserting it on one of the two tracks, you can realign the timing and adjust the phase to achieve a more solid, defined, and "mix-ready" sound.
It is particularly useful on multi-source takes (bass DI + amp, snare + overheads, multi-mic guitar, live recordings), but also in music post-production whenever you layer doubles, re-amps, or simultaneous captures. Beyond correction, InPhase LT becomes a sound design tool to sculpt the perception of movement and thickness, notably through spectacular and controlled flangers.
Main Features
Time alignment and immediate correction
When two tracks don't "line up" exactly, a simple delay of a few milliseconds can degrade impact. InPhase LT allows you to shift a track to align transients (snare attack, bass slap, guitar pick) and optimize summation. The result: more precision, fewer comb filtering effects, and a low end that regains its density.
Phase control by frequency (dual allpass)
Some problems cannot be solved by a global delay alone, as phase can vary depending on frequency (due to mic, distance, room, natural source filtering). To go further, InPhase LT includes two allpass filters that modify phase without changing level, to adjust alignment where it matters: bass lows, snare "body," or overhead brightness. You choose the "shelf" or "bell" response type and fine-tune with a variable Q for broad or surgical adjustment.
Quick solutions and efficient workflow
For obvious cases (badly wired XLR cable, polarity inversion, reversed mic), the Phase Flip button offers instant correction. It's the kind of detail that speeds up mixing when you need to quickly decide between "cancels out" and "adds up."
Creative effects: flanging and "through-zero" movements
Once alignment is mastered, the plugin also lends itself to effects. By copying a track and automating the Delay on the copy, you can create rich, controlled flanging, including through-zero textures (the iconic delay crossover effect). Ideal for adding movement to overheads, thickening a guitar, or transforming a mono source into a more lively texture.
