What Waves JJP Drums Is For
Waves JJP Drums is a production and mixing plugin designed to quickly sculpt a drum kit that holds the track. It is suitable for acoustic recordings (multi-mic), sampled drums, or synthetic kits, with a clear goal: to get a solid kick, a clear snare, and wide toms without spending hours stacking plugins. Whether you work in rock, pop, hip-hop, or EDM, JJP Drums helps to bring the drums to the forefront while maintaining precise control over dynamics and texture.
Main Features
A "pro" approach by Jack Joseph Puig
Developed in collaboration with Jack Joseph Puig, JJP Drums does more than just boost a kick and make a snare snap: the idea is to optimize the sonic material for a coherent drum sound in the mix. The ergonomics emphasize efficiency, with musically relevant settings that deliver convincing results even at low levels or, conversely, push towards a very pronounced sound.
Parallel processing for more energy without losing attack
The integrated parallel processing enhances presence, density, and perceived volume without squashing the hit and natural feel of the signal. This is especially useful to keep drums lively: you gain punch and "body" while avoiding the over-compressed effect that tires the ear.
Kick: dual source, sustain, and depth
The kick module is designed for real production scenarios: the ability to process two kick sounds (for example, a close mic and a distant mic, or two sample layers). You can also increase sustain to lengthen the hold and reinforce the sense of mass, then add a subharmonic to gain depth in the low end. This approach is also well suited for EDM and hip-hop kicks, where foundation and impact are key.
Snare: top/bottom optimization and ring control
For the snare, JJP Drums offers separate optimizations for top and bottom mics to balance attack, tone, and snap. The gate allows cutting intrusive ringing, tightening the note, or conversely creating classic

Questions frequently asked
Is Waves JJP Drums compatible with macOS Sonoma?
The stated setup requires macOS Catalina 10.15, Big Sur 11, Monterey 12, Ventura 13, or Sonoma 14. 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB of disk space are required. Both Intel and Apple Silicon processors are supported.
Can two kick drum sources be processed with this plugin?
The kick module allows processing of two kick drum sounds, such as a close mic and a distant source, with sustain adjustment and subharmonic enhancement.
How to reduce snare drum ringing with JJP Drums?
For the snare, a gate reduces excessive ringing or tightens the note. Separate optimizations are provided for top and bottom mic recordings.
How many presets are included?
The 30 presets created by Jack Joseph Puig offer starting points for drums with a modern punch, either more open or more tight.
Is the plugin suitable for sampled and synthetic drums?
The processing is designed for acoustic multi-mic drums, sampled or synthetic. Dedicated modules for kick, snare, and toms notably help achieve round tom sounds with appropriate reverb.
