What Waves L3-16 Multimaximizer Is For

Waves L3-16 Multimaximizer is a mastering plugin designed to increase the loudness and density of a mix transparently, without losing impact or definition. Thanks to its multiband structure, it allows controlling limiting where necessary (by frequency band) rather than crushing the entire signal. It is particularly suited for master buses, stems (drums, music, vocals), and any situation where you seek a "finished" sound that is louder and more stable while maintaining musicality.

Main Features

The Fusion of EQ and Dynamics to Sculpt the Master

The L3-16 combines an approach of dynamic control and frequency shaping in a workflow inspired by a parametric EQ. The 16 virtual bands are clearly displayed, with distinct curve representations (attenuation, EQ, and priority). This "at-a-glance" reading helps understand what the maximizer is actually doing to the signal and finely adjust the balance between power, transparency, and stability.

Linear-Phase Crossovers: Power Without Blur

In mastering, raising the level can quickly degrade the image and attacks. Here, the linear-phase crossovers aim to avoid "smearing" and unwanted phase effects, even with significant maximization. The result: a cleaner high end, better preserved transients, and a mix that retains its coherence, even with heavy processing.

Release Characters and Priority: Tailor the Punch to Your Style

The plugin offers 21 release characters to adapt the gain reduction behavior to your aesthetic: from a warmer, softer sound to a more modern and punchy response. The Priority function allows emphasizing key elements (such as vocals) so they remain present and are not masked when the overall level rises, a valuable asset for dense masters.

A True "One-Stop Mastering" with IDR

Once the level and balance are achieved, the L3-16 integrates the IDR section for the end of the chain: dithering and noise shaping designed to prepare clean exports according to the targeted resolution. This is a practical approach to quickly finalize a master, especially when working on multiple tracks and seeking consistent results.

  • 21 release characters: from warmer textures to punchier responses.
  • 3 band slopes for wider or narrower control depending on the area to treat.
  • 38 presets for different mastering contexts.
  • EQ bell or shelf: surgical precision or broader corrections.
