What Waves Masters Is For
Waves Masters is a plugin bundle dedicated to the key mastering stages, when your mix is already solid but lacks that final percentage that makes the difference: more perceived loudness, a better balanced spectrum, sharper transients, and a clearer image. It is aimed at producers, mix/master engineers, and home studio users who want to finalize tracks ready for distribution (streaming, video, CD) with a clear workflow: correct, control dynamics, then maximize and prepare the output.
Main Features
Linear-phase Equalization: Precision and Transparency
The Linear Phase EQ targets mastering equalization without unwanted phase side effects, avoiding the sensation of "smearing" that can appear with classic EQs. Its signature is neutral and precise, with excellent transient preservation to finely work the air, presence, or low end without destabilizing the mix balance.
To tailor the curve to your material, you have nine response types across five parametric bands, and you can choose "analog" or "digital" slope methods depending on the desired character and firmness. The bundle also allows orienting the equalization towards a broadband or lowband approach to fit the EQ to the material (for example: stabilizing the bass without hardening the upper midrange).
Linear-phase Multiband Compression: Clean Dynamics, Intact Phase
The Linear Phase Multiband Compressor is designed for precision compression: controlling the low end, smoothing an aggressive midrange, or stabilizing an overly mobile high end, all while preserving phase integrity across the spectrum. With five fully parametric bands, you can target exactly the areas that move and achieve a more focused, clearer, and more readable result, especially useful when a mix reacts differently depending on sections (verses/choruses).
Beyond compression, this processor acts as a true versatile multiband dynamics tool: you can compress one band, perform upward expansion on another (to restore relief to overly squashed areas), or even apply no dynamics to certain bands and use them as spectral shaping with a "linear-phase" mindset. All this supports more controlled mastering without losing the sense of punch.
L2 Maximizer: Final Power and Peak Control
For the last step, the L2 limiter / level maximizer delivers the energy and density typical of a studio standard. Its approach focuses on efficiency: peak management, increased perceived loudness, and clear rendering, with optimized release times to avoid excessive pumping. Its stereo-only format and streamlined interface make it a quick choice when the goal is to achieve a "big, bold, and defined" master in just a few steps, while remaining musical.
Dithering and Noise Shaping: Clean Conversions at Low Bit Depths
Waves Masters goes beyond dynamics and EQ processing: it includes dithering and noise shaping algorithms designed to prepare the output when you need to reduce resolution (for example, during certain exports). Three "flavors" of noise shaping are available to balance noise perception and detail preservation. To speed up workflow, the bundle also offers auto-makeup on the Multiband Compressor and L2 Maximizer, convenient for comparing settings at a more consistent perceived level.

Questions frequently asked
Does Waves Masters work on Mac Apple Silicon?
The specified setup supports both Intel processors and Silicon architectures, running macOS Catalina 10.15. It requires 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB of disk space.
Is the Waves Masters L2 Maximizer stereo?
The L2 Maximizer operates only in stereo and manages peaks during the final stage of level maximization.
How many bands does the multiband compressor have?
The Linear Phase Multiband Compressor features five fully parametric bands. Each band can receive compression or upward expansion. Some bands can remain untreated dynamically to serve spectral shaping purposes.
Can a linear-phase EQ be used for mastering with this bundle?
The Linear Phase EQ includes five parametric bands and nine response types. Analog or digital slopes allow adjustment of correction firmness, with broadband or lowband approaches.
Does the bundle include dithering for exporting at low bit depth?
Three noise shaping modes are offered to complement dithering during resolution reduction at export.
