Waves MetaFlanger is a modulation effects plugin designed to bring rich and musical movement to your tracks. It excels in vocal production (widening, airy halo, subtle doubling) as well as on guitars (psychedelic swirls, retro textures), on synths (animation and depth), or on a bus to achieve the spectacular "flanger on the entire mix" effect. Thanks to its delay range and phase and filtering options, it covers both subtle mixing treatments and bold creative effects.

The "tape flanging" sound with thru-zero
Getting a convincing flanger is not just about modulating a delay: you need to capture the physical sensation and controlled instability of tape machines. MetaFlanger includes a thru-zero flanging mode that recreates the "null points" of true analog flanging, where the signal seems to cancel out and then reappear, resulting in a livelier, more vintage, and instantly recognizable sound.
From 0 to 50 ms: from phasing to chorus
With delay times from 0 to 50 ms, MetaFlanger naturally navigates between several effect families: tight phasing, classic flanging, wider chorus, and even doubling sensations. This range allows adapting the effect to the source: a subtle movement on a lead vocal, a wide chorus on pads, or aggressive flanging on a rhythm guitar.
Filtering, phase, and stereo: shaping movement in the mix
High-pass or low-pass filter modes help adjust the color: lighten the lows to avoid cluttering the mix, or conversely warm and thicken the movement. The phase flip allows for more extreme signatures, between "hollow" flanging (scooped) and "zinging" (sharper). Finally, the stereo spread parameter widens the image without compromising coherence: the stereo folds cleanly to mono, a key point for mixes broadcast on various systems.
Sync, freeze, and presets
For precise musical use, MetaFlanger can sync to your host's tempo or operate in manual mode. The stop button freezes the modulation to "freeze" a moment of movement, useful for creating transitions, accents, or almost static textures.
