What Waves OneKnob Pumper Is For
Waves OneKnob Pumper is a plugin designed to quickly create a pumping (or rhythmic ducking) effect synchronized to the tempo, widely used in EDM, pop, and electronic music. It serves both to make a mix "breathe" rhythmically and to add a modern pulse to static sources. You can use it on pads, basses, keyboards, guitar power chords, drums, or on effects buses to give a sense of movement and enhance the beat's impact.
Main Features
Pumping Without Sidechain: Ready-to-Use Effect
Unlike traditional setups requiring a sidechain compressor, a trigger signal, and routing, OneKnob Pumper offers a direct approach: no sidechain is needed. You select a pumping pattern and the ducking effect is applied immediately, speeding up production and facilitating creative experimentation, even in dense sessions.
10 Rhythms and Offsets to Create Counter-Rhythms
The plugin provides 10 pumping/ducking rhythms covering fast subdivisions (up to 1/32 notes) and longer durations (up to bars). To avoid the "already heard" effect or to build more complex grooves, OneKnob Pumper also offers 3 timing offsets: ideal for placing the dip on a different part of the beat and creating counter-rhythms that animate the track.
Single Control to Adjust Intensity, From Subtle to Radical
The "OneKnob" concept translates into a single control that allows you to adjust the effect's intensity. At high intensity, you get the typical EDM pumping that makes instruments breathe with the kick drum's rhythm. At low intensity, the effect becomes a more discreet sound design tool, perfect for adding a light pulse to pads, atmospheres, synths, or reverb and delay returns, without overpowering the mix.

Questions frequently asked
Does Waves OneKnob Pumper require a sidechain?
No trigger signal or sidechain routing is required. The 10 ducking patterns directly apply tempo-synced pumping.
What pumping rhythms are available?
The selection includes 10 rhythms, ranging from 1/32 note subdivisions to bar-based durations.
Can contra-rhythms be created with ducking?
Three timing offsets are available. They shift the ducking dip to another part of the beat, allowing the creation of less linear pulses.
What is the Mac and Windows compatibility?
On macOS, compatibility covers Catalina 10.15 through Sonoma 14, on Intel or Silicon processors, with 8 GB RAM and 16 GB disk space. Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 are supported with 8 GB RAM, 16 GB disk space, and an Intel or AMD x64-compatible processor.
On which sources should this pumping effect be used?
The single control adjusts intensity on pads, basses, keyboards, drums, guitar power chords, or effect buses. At low settings, it adds a light pulse to pads and reverb or delay returns.
