What Waves Restoration Is For

Waves Restoration is an audio restoration toolkit designed to correct defects that occur in any production workflow: background noise, tape hiss, electrical hum, vinyl clicks, surface crackles, or digital artifacts. Whether you work in music, post-production, podcasting, remixing, or archiving, the bundle helps you recover difficult takes without altering the useful signal.

It is suitable for both "modern" projects (voice cleaning, live takes, field recordings) and older media (vinyl, shellac) as well as film or TV soundtracks whose quality has deteriorated over time. The goal is clear: reduce artifacts in a controlled manner while preserving the grain and intelligibility of the source.

Main Features

Targeted Click and Peak Removal with X-Click

X-Click processes unwanted clicks and transients, from typical vinyl imperfections to issues related to digital clocking. The approach aims to eliminate peaks without dulling the attack of important sounds, making it useful on masters, vocal takes, solo instruments, or archives.

Surface Crackle Cleaning with X-Crackle

X-Crackle is designed for more "diffuse" defects: crackles and low-level surface noises that accumulate and tire the listener. It is particularly useful on disc transfers, old takes, or ambiences where aggressive treatment of isolated clicks is insufficient.

Hum and Harmonics Removal with X-Hum

X-Hum targets hum and components related to power supplies and electrical interference. On sensitive recordings (vocals, dialogue, location recordings, guitar/bass through complex chains), it clarifies the low end and stabilizes the listening experience without resorting to extreme equalization.

Constant Noise Reduction with X-Noise

X-Noise is dedicated to continuous nuisances such as tape hiss, ventilation noise, certain computer noises, or constant artifacts. It helps make a signal cleaner before compression, EQ, or limiting, which limits the "pumping" effect and improves the perception of proximity, especially on vocals.

Advanced Noise Reduction by Profiling with Z-Noise

Z-Noise goes further with a profiling approach: you identify the noise fingerprint (using "learn" modes) then remove it surgically. This is a strong option when noise is complex, variable, or particularly audible, and when precise cleaning is needed for post-production, dialogue, or demanding restoration.

Restoration-Oriented Control, Analysis, and A/B Listening

To work quickly and cleanly, Waves Restoration emphasizes control: spectral displays and meters to visualize artifact attenuation, and the ability to monitor either the cleaned signal or only what the processing removes. This "residual solo" is essential to avoid over-processing and preserve details (sibilance, natural reverbs, instrument attacks).
