What is Waves Sound Design Suite for?
Waves Sound Design Suite is a collection of plugins dedicated to sound creation and transformation for image and immersive content. It is aimed at sound designers, sound editors, FX designers, film composers, and content creators who need to go beyond classic processing to give their sounds a strong identity.
Whether you are working on impacts, whooshes, evolving ambiances, transitions, realistic foley, or abstract textures, the suite allows you to start from a simple source and "sculpt" it: stretch time, shift pitch, reshape transients, widen the stereo field, dirty the signal, or conversely finely control it. It is suitable for both narrative sound design (film, TV, documentary) and more rhythmic workflows (trailers, commercials, streaming, DJ sets) or interactive ones (video games).
Main Features
Pitch and time: twisting the material to create movement
To create expressive variations, thicken a source, or design spectacular rises and falls, the suite includes pitch manipulation and transposition tools. You can bend pitch with UltraPitch and manage more structured pitch and time changes with SoundShifter, to create sound signatures, creatures, stylized engines, or slow-motion/acceleration effects suited to picture editing.
Space, modulation, and movement: giving a cinematic dimension
Modern sound design often requires "living" sounds in constant motion. Effects like Enigma, Doppler, and MondoMod help place your elements in a believable or intentionally unreal space, playing with the sensation of distance, rotation, trajectory, and temporal transformation. Ideal for simulating a fast pass in front of the camera, expanding a transition design, or animating a texture without complex automation.
Fusion and identity: imprinting one character onto another
To create hybrids (robotic voice, vocal texture on a synth, "talking" percussion, ambiance taking on the grain of a foley), Morphoder allows imposing the character of one sound onto another. This approach is valuable in video games and postproduction when unique signatures that remain clear in the mix are desired.
Low end and impact: enhancing the physical sensation
When the image demands weight, "sub" and a solid foundation (impacts, explosions, drops, transitions, hits), LoAir acts as a subharmonic generator to thicken the low end. You get more present and stable bass, useful in cinema, trailer music, but also on club-oriented musical content.
Thickness, width, and density: doubling, delaying, widening
The suite also offers tools to thicken and spread: doublers and delays to add body to a voice, lead, FX, or pad, while maintaining clarity control. Combine these treatments with work on the stereo image to go from a mono element to a wider presence, or deliberately "bias" spatialization to enhance the emotional impact of a scene.
Essential processing: dynamics, EQ, and final level
Beyond creative effects, Waves Sound Design Suite includes production essentials. You have several compressors with varied character, from vintage to modern, to control voiceover, stabilize an FX bus, or glue layers together. Maximizers allow pushing levels for more power and punch, useful in pre-mix, validation exports, or renders intended for presentations.
On the equalization side, you can choose between analog-flavored approaches and more precise tools, including linear phase options for clean work on stems or sensitive buses. Finally, for sounds that need to "bite" into the image, guitar amp style processors and distortions provide dirt, crunch, and grain, perfect for mechanical effects, radios, weapons, or aggressive textures.
Inspired content for creation
The suite also includes Electric Grand 80, a piano that can be used to create melodic segments, harmonic layers, or fast musical patterns within a sound design-oriented project. Handy for building beds, teasers, or reinforcing narration without leaving your production environment.
Designed in consultation with film sound designer Scott Gershin and video game specialist Charles Deenen, Waves Sound Design Suite aims for a clear goal: to provide a coherent, quick-to-learn toolbox, versatile enough to go from subtle processing to radical transformation, while remaining suitable for postproduction and editing constraints.

Questions frequently asked
Is Waves Sound Design Suite compatible with an Apple Silicon Mac?
The specified configuration supports macOS Catalina 10.15, with either an Intel or Apple Silicon processor. It requires 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB of disk space.
How many plugins are included in Waves Sound Design Suite?
The collection includes 40 plugins designed for sound transformation and processing.
Which tools are used to create whooshes and motion effects?
UltraPitch and SoundShifter handle pitch and time manipulations. Enigma, Doppler, and MondoMod provide modulation, movement paths, and a sense of motion. These effects are applied to transitions, animated textures, and fast on-screen movements.
Can the bass of impacts and explosions be enhanced?
LoAir generates subharmonics to thicken the low end spectrum on impacts, explosions, or drops.
Does the suite include mixing tools and an instrument?
Compressors, equalizers, maximizers, delays, and doublers are included to control levels and thicken sources. Electric Grand 80 offers a piano designed to create harmonic layers or musical patterns within a sound design project.
