Waves Voltage Amps is a virtual amp plugin designed for guitar and bass production in both studio and home studio environments: direct recording (DI), in-the-box re-amping, songwriting, pre-production, and mixing. Its goal is clear: to provide finished, musical tones right out of the box, allowing you to focus on playing, arrangement, and the energy of the take rather than on a complex chain of settings.

Beyond strings, Voltage also proves very useful as a tool for creative coloration and saturation: adding bite to a drum loop, giving presence to a synth lead, thickening a kick drum, or adding controlled harmonic saturation to vocals.

Voltage brings together 5 guitar amps and 2 bass amps, each designed to deliver an immediately recognizable character, from spacious and bright clean tones to the most aggressive crunch and high-gain saturations. The idea is not to offer dozens of models to sift through, but a coherent selection of archetypes that can quickly fit into rock, pop, metal, R&B, or alternative mixes.

Three "Characters" per Amp and Straightforward Controls

For each amp, you choose a Clean, Overdrive, or Lead character, then shape your tone with essential controls: Gain for saturation amount, Cab Tone for cabinet color, and Room to place the amp in a believable stereo space. The ergonomics are designed for quick adjustments to achieve a playable and recordable sound in seconds.

Focus: Adapt the Amp to Your Guitar and Pickups

The Focus control is designed to solve a common problem: the same amp setup can react very differently depending on the instrument, pickups, and playing attack. Humbucker pickups too "muddy," single coils too bright, unwanted harmonics or lack of low-end sustain: turn Focus until you lock in the balance point. The result is a tighter, clearer sound better calibrated for your guitar, without stacking EQs before and after the amp.

Custom Cabinets, IRs, and Easy Comparison

Voltage offers 6 cabinets carefully paired with the amps, featuring dedicated IRs for realistic and immediately usable response. To work quickly, settings remain consistent when switching amps, facilitating comparisons and contextual listening. You can also use the Cab Bypass to drive a physical cabinet or integrate a separate IR loader if you already have a favorite IR library.

Presets and Effect Chains for Straight to Production

With over 400 presets crafted by musicians and producers, Voltage serves as both an idea generator and a mixing tool. Need a bright clean for arpeggios, a tight crunch for double rhythms, or a lead that cuts through the mix effortlessly: you start from a credible base and adjust in a few moves. The plugin also provides access to over 100 complete FX chains dedicated to Voltage via StudioVerse, handy for ready-to-use sounds.
