What RC-20 Retro Color Is For
RC-20 Retro Color is a creative effects plugin designed to recreate the warm feel of vintage recording gear. It adds life to sounds that are too "clean," brings organic texture to synths, drums, vocals, or acoustic instruments, and provides mix coherence by applying an overall coloration. Whether you produce hip-hop, electronic, pop, lo-fi, film music, or more acoustic arrangements, RC-20 works equally well as an insert on a track or as bus processing.
Main Features
RC-20 Retro Color is based on 6 modules that work in synergy to create a credible "retro" sonic signature while maintaining fine control over the intensity and style of coloration. You can stack the modules for a complete transformation or activate just one for a subtle touch.
Noise: Noise and Texture
The Noise module adds depth through a musical noise generator: vinyl crackle, tape hiss, studio ambiance, electrical circuit hum, or pedal noise. Ideal for densifying a sound, creating depth, and breaking digital sterility.
Wobble: Pitch Instabilities
Wobble reproduces pitch irregularities typical of turntables and tape machines. Perfect for achieving expressive wobble and flutter effects on pads, pianos, guitars, or samples, and for adding a sense of movement.
Distort: Saturation and Fuzz
The Distort module covers a wide spectrum, from light saturation that thickens a signal to more aggressive distortion. Useful for enhancing a snare, making a bass stand out, or adding controlled bite to a vocal.
Degrader: Bitcrusher and Vintage Digital Grain
Degrader recreates the color of old digital tools and samplers. Sample rate and bit depth reduction provide a recognizable grain, excellent for lo-fi textures, gritty leads, or rawer drums.
Space: Reverb
The Space module adds depth and width through a reverb designed to integrate easily into a mix. Handy for "gluing" a sound into a space without losing character.
Magnetic: Tape Wear and Volume Drops
Magnetic simulates the losses and level variations associated with tape recording and playback. An excellent lever to introduce irregular dynamics and a sense of living hardware.

Questions frequently asked
Does RC-20 Retro Color work on Windows 11?
Compatibility covers Windows 10 and Windows 11 in 64-bit. On Mac, macOS 10.13 or later in 64-bit is required. An Internet connection is necessary during installation.
How many effect modules are included?
Six modules are offered: Noise, Wobble, Distort, Degrader, Space, and Magnetic.
How to get a vinyl or tape effect on a track?
The Noise module includes vinyl crackles and tape hiss. Wobble introduces pitch irregularities inspired by turntables and tape machines, while Magnetic creates level variations related to tape.
Can lo-fi grain be added to drums?
The Degrader module acts on sample rate and bit depth to deliver an old sampler grain. Distort then allows adding light saturation or more pronounced distortion to a snare or bass.
Can RC-20 Retro Color be used on a mix bus?
The processing can be inserted on an individual track or on a bus. The Space module adds reverb intended to place sounds in a space, while combining all 6 modules allows an overall mix coloration.
