An XO Bass Trombone Designed for Performance

In the world of bass trombones, the XO brand has built a reputation around instruments focused on manufacturing excellence and real-world efficiency (orchestra, brass section, studio). This approach is reflected here with a design centered on projection, stability, and playing flexibility. The XO bass trombone range is offered with different configurations (brass or rose copper bell, aligned or offset valve sections, and double Thayer), to suit each musician's preferences according to their repertoire and breath feel.

For Which Musicians and Styles?

This bass trombone is primarily aimed at advanced and professional musicians seeking an instrument capable of leading a section with authority while remaining flexible in dynamics. Its Bb/F/Eb/Db configuration is particularly suited for symphonic repertoire, wind orchestra, brass band, as well as big band and film music contexts where a solid low register, reliable intonation, and smooth position changes are expected. Thanks to the interchangeable mouthpiece shanks, it also suits players who like to customize the feel (resistance, grip, comfort) depending on the venue, mouthpiece, or playing load.

Sound and Design

The choice of a lacquered rose copper bell promotes a warm and dense sonic signature, with a tone that can seem rounder while maintaining the breadth needed to carry within an ensemble. Its 241 mm diameter contributes to wide projection and a convincing foundation in the low register. The 14.50 mm bore provides a good balance between airflow and control : the instrument responds frankly, while maintaining firmness in fortes and a certain delicacy in pianissimos.

The body is made of lacquered brass and the slide tubes are constructed with nickel silver outer tubes and chrome-plated nickel silver inner tubes, aiming for mechanical stability and smooth slide action over time. The tuning slide is made of brass/nickel silver, contributing to robustness and precision in adjustments. In terms of finish, the overall look remains elegant and understated, with no engraving on the bell favoring a clean aesthetic.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To get the best out of your slide daily, a slide lubricant (cream or spray depending on your habits) and a slide swab suitable for trombone are essential maintenance items. A soft cloth is also useful to preserve the lacquer and minimize marks after playing.
