Revstar: the "café racer" spirit in Yamaha's high-end range

Initially launched in 2015, the Revstar range marked Yamaha's return to the forefront of electric guitars, relying both on its lutherie expertise and an aesthetic inspired by the "motor" universe and café racer-style customizations. The current series is available in three levels (Element, Standard, and Professional): the Professional is the flagship model, featuring Japanese craftsmanship and technical choices designed for stability, resonance, and versatility.

The Yamaha Revstar Professional RSP02T is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking an expressive electric guitar that is reliable on stage and flexible enough to switch between genres without changing instruments. Its two P90-type pickups and extended switching circuit make it particularly comfortable in rock, blues, indie, alternative, and pop, with a dynamic response ideal for both pick and fingerstyle playing.

Sound

The chambered mahogany body, combined with Yamaha's Acoustic Design process, promotes a lively attack, a more "open" resonance, and good sustain, while reducing the instrument's weight. The carbon reinforcements in the body and neck contribute to stability and a precise feel, useful when aiming for a low and consistent setup.

On the electronics side, the two VP5 P90-type pickups (single coil, Alnico V) deliver a rich and punchy tone: thicker than a classic single coil but with definition and bite that respond very well to right-hand dynamics. The 5-position selector offers combinations that expand the "in-between" sounds, while the Focus Switch (push/pull on the tone control) adds a sense of density and presence, handy for standing out in a mix without needing an active boost.
