The Sound

The RSS20 combines a chambered mahogany back with a maple top: mahogany provides body, rich low-mids, and natural sustain, while maple adds definition and attack to better cut through the mix. The chambered design, developed with Yamaha Acoustic Design, enhances the "alive" guitar feel and improves resonance, while reducing weight and promoting balance. On the electronics side, the VH5 Alnico V humbuckers deliver a full and articulate sound; the 5-position selector opens up more nuanced textures than typical 2-pickup combinations, and the Focus Switch (push/pull on tone) adds a passive boost with a denser character, ideal for thickening a riff or making a lead stand out without changing guitars.
