Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The balafon is part of the great percussion traditions of West Africa. Originating in the 12th century in the Sosso kingdom, in the geographical area corresponding to present-day Mali, it established itself as both a melodic and rhythmic instrument, central to ensembles and ceremonies. The MB002 is part of this heritage: a traditional balafon, handmade, designed to recapture the "wood and gourd" spirit that made it famous, in an accessible and practical format for everyday use.

Who This Balafon Is For

The MB002 balafon is aimed at beginners who want to discover an intuitive melodic percussion instrument, as well as intermediate musicians seeking a compact instrument to work on striking precision, hand independence, and phrasing. It is particularly suited to afro, world, ensemble percussion styles, as well as educational contexts (workshops, music schools, outreach). Thanks to playing with two mallets, one can quickly move from simple accompaniment to richer ostinatos, with real expressive potential.
