Fête de la Musique was born in 1982, the brainchild of Jack Lang and composer Maurice Fleuret. The original idea? A survey had revealed that one in two French people played a musical instrument. The concept: take that music out of bedrooms and garages and bring it into the streets, for free. 45 editions later, it’s celebrated in more than 120 countries.
