Audient Console Heritage in a Modern 1U Format
The Audient Horizon 8P brings the brand's professional console sound approach to a compact Thunderbolt 3 audio interface. Its eight preamps are inspired by the design developed by David Dearden for the ASP8024-HE console, an architecture renowned for its musical, open and natural sound reproduction.
Far more than a simple conversion interface, the Horizon 8P is designed as the nerve centre of a demanding production studio. It combines the capture quality of a console channel strip with the routing flexibility of a digital audio workstation, while retaining a straightforward 1U rackmount design.
An Interface Designed for Producers, Sound Engineers and Hybrid Studios
With 24 inputs and 32 outputs, the Horizon 8P is aimed at studios recording multiple sources simultaneously: drums, bands, vocals, synthesisers, machines or acoustic ensembles. The eight microphone preamps allow you to work directly with an extensive microphone collection, without immediately relying on external preamps.
Its DB25 line connections make it easy to integrate compressors, equalisers, effects processors and analogue summing mixers. The interface is therefore perfectly suited to hybrid mixing setups, where analogue processing complements the precision and convenience of a digital audio workstation.
Thanks to its two headphone outputs and four independent headphone mixes accessible from Horizon Control, each performer can benefit from a cue mix tailored to their session. Dual stereo monitoring also allows for quick A/B listening between two pairs of monitor speakers.
Capture and Monitoring Tools Designed to Take You Further
ORBIT Control: Adapt the Preamp to Every Microphone
One of the Horizon 8P's most notable features is its ORBIT Control system. This variable impedance control offers three selectable settings: high, medium and low impedance. It allows you to adjust how the preamp interacts with the connected microphone in order to fine-tune the response, level of detail and character of the source.
This feature is particularly relevant with dynamic and ribbon microphones, but it also provides additional creative flexibility with condenser microphones. Combined with the available 75 dB of gain, it helps deliver a balanced, usable recording from the outset, including with quiet or nuanced sources.
High-Resolution Conversion and Optimised Latency
The Horizon 8P's 32-bit / 192 kHz conversion is backed by a 133 dB dynamic range. The result is precise capture of level variations, the fastest transients and the most subtle resonances. This dynamic headroom is particularly valuable when recording vocals, acoustic percussion or harmonically rich instruments.
With a quoted round-trip latency of 0.99 ms at 192 kHz with a 64-sample buffer, the interface promotes natural headphone playing and responsive monitoring through software processing. Musicians can record with their usual amp simulations, reverbs or processing chains without any distracting sense of delay.
Centralised Control for Complex Sessions
The Horizon Control software brings together essential routing and monitoring functions in a clear interface: routing matrix, monitoring settings, comfort reverb and headphone mix management. The hardware controls for mono, polarity reverse, Dim, Talkback and reference level further enhance the interface's everyday efficiency.
Finally, the scalable architecture allows up to four Horizon interfaces to be daisy-chained through a single driver. This modularity meets the needs of studios looking to expand their channel count as projects evolve, up to a configuration of 200 inputs and 200 outputs.
