Within the Austrian Audio range, the OC7 is positioned as a version dedicated to instrumental use, adopting a "small diaphragm" approach where other microphones favor a more versatile format. The goal is clear: to offer clarity, transient speed, and placement stability sought by engineers when capturing a snare drum, toms, an acoustic guitar, or a piano with precision.

This philosophy is reflected in the choice of the internally manufactured OCC7 capsule and an ergonomics design that speeds up daily work. In practice, the OC7 retains the "OC" sonic DNA while making it more agile on close sources, sharp attacks, and situations where every centimeter of placement changes the timbre.

Intended uses and target profiles for the OC7

The Austrian Audio OC7 is aimed at musicians, home studio users, studios, and live technicians who want a small diaphragm condenser microphone capable of handling high levels without harshness, while remaining fast and clear. Its cardioid polar pattern allows focusing the capture on the useful area and achieving clean off-axis rejection, a decisive advantage in multi-mic setups (drums, close amps, acoustic ensembles) to limit bleed and save mixing time.

It excels on acoustic guitar (attack, controlled brightness, articulation), electric guitar (detail and presence complementing a dynamic mic), piano (hammer definition and body coherence), percussion, overheads, toms, snare, as well as strings, woodwinds, and brass. Whether you seek a tight and "ready-to-mix" take or a neutral base to shape later, the OC7 prioritizes a stable image and clean transients.

Features designed for speed, precision, and preserving dynamics

Swivel Joint 220deg: fast and repeatable placement

The rotating head is one of the OC7's major assets: it allows orienting the capsule towards the exact point to capture (drumhead edge, center, bridge, soundhole, breath zone, amp grille) without loosening the boom or changing the stand angle. Result: faster soundchecks, fewer adjustments around a drum kit or piano, and more repeatable placements from session to session, particularly useful in re-recording, touring, or studio work when you need to recall a take.

OCC7 capsule: transient precision and attack texture

The small diaphragm format naturally emphasizes definition: the OC7 follows rapid source variations with great responsiveness, helping to preserve the "grain" and impact sensation. With a specified frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, the OC7 can reproduce air and depth while maintaining a clean midrange, a key area for guitar, snare, and brass.

This precision is a direct advantage in mixing: better element separation, simpler equalization, and a foundation that handles compression better when densifying drums or highlighting a rhythm part.

-10 dB pad and 40 Hz and 80 Hz high-pass filters: level and low-end control

On very powerful sources, headroom before saturation is critical. The OC7 specifies 154 dB SPL, exceeding 160 dB SPL with the -10 dB pad, securing snare, toms, close percussion, or loud amp recordings. The 40 Hz and 80 Hz (2nd order) high-pass filters clean at the source: stand vibrations, stage rumble, proximity effect, or unnecessary low end that eats headroom. Choosing the right setting results in cleaner capture, clearer bass, and easier dynamic management right from recording.
