The AZUMI Série S: a "concert" approach with Altus quality

Designed for flutists seeking both sound quality and design, the AZUMI Série S stands out with a philosophy clearly focused on accomplished playing: orchestra, chamber music, wind ensembles, and solo repertoire. The choice of a handmade Altus headjoint places these flutes in a category where manufacturing precision and acoustic coherence become central criteria, especially for projection, intonation, and dynamic control.

At the heart of this series, the S-Cut embouchure aims to expand the expressive palette: it promotes a personal sound, greater color variety, and an increased sense of control thanks to more pronounced breath resistance. The result: an instrument that meets the expectations of experienced musicians, in contexts where attack quality, line holding, and nuance flexibility make the difference.

For which flutist and in which styles?

This AZUMI Série S flute is primarily intended for advanced intermediate and professional flutists and musicians with high demands in terms of response and finish. It is particularly suitable for playing situations where controlled projection and high stability are expected: orchestra sections, chamber groups, wind bands/ensembles, as well as solo work.

Stylistically, it performs well in the classical repertoire (articulation, intonation, register homogeneity), while offering appreciable expressive freedom for more modern aesthetics (variety, stage music), as long as a nuanced sound and reliable mechanics are sought. The hollow keys also open extended possibilities for certain contemporary techniques.

Sound and design

The design emphasizes a balance between timbre richness, projection, and control. The handmade Altus headjoint, combined with the S-Cut architecture, encourages a sound production that leaves room for the musician to sculpt the attack, density, and color of the sound, with a more pronounced breath resistance sensation. This type of response is particularly appreciated when aiming to stabilize the air column and vary dynamics without losing pitch center.

The choice of hollow keys is not merely aesthetic: it can facilitate certain advanced approaches (glissandi, multiphonic sounds, and micro-intervals) and offers a different tactile sensation under the fingers. The inline configuration aligns the G keys with the other tone holes, while the pointed concert keywork enhances mechanical stability, a key point for reliability and precision in fast passages.

Finally, the presence of the B footjoint (when chosen) extends the instrument's range down by a semitone, a valued asset in the repertoire and certain orchestral writings, while providing a solid feel at the low end of the instrument.

Recommended compatible accessories

To accompany this flute daily, you can consider universally compatible accessories such as a flute cleaning rod (for internal drying), a microfiber cloth (for external maintenance), and a flute stand to secure the instrument during rehearsals. A tuner is also useful for precise work at the instrument's reference pitch.
