Summary of This Score

Leichte Klavierstücke und Tänze brings together several emblematic pages by Ravel, chosen for their harmonic colors, elegance, and dance rhythms. This collection allows exploration of different Ravelian writing styles: the singing line and subtle pedaling of the Pavane pour une infante défunte (1899), the clarity of texture and sway of a Minuet (including the Menuet sur le nom d'Haydn, 1909), as well as the controlled energy of the Waltz "À la manière de... Borodine" (1913).

Also featured are the Prelude (1913), character pieces such as Menuet antique (1895), and two excerpts from the Valses nobles et sentimentales (1911): No III: Modéré and No IV: Assez animé. Finally, the collection includes the Forlane (No III) from Le tombeau de Couperin (1914/1917), a true study in style where rhythmic precision, ornamentation, and voice balance are central to the performance.

Thanks to this selection, the pianist develops essential skills: phrasing, subtle dynamics, hand independence, clarity of sound layers, and a sense of dance. The preface (in German/English/French) provides useful context to better understand Ravel's aesthetic and refine interpretative choices.
