Inspired by Studio "Preamp + DI" Recording Chains

In both studios and home studios, combining a DI and a preamplifier is a fundamental setup: the DI captures an instrument source at the correct level and impedance, while the preamp provides gain, headroom, and character. This model follows that "all-in-one" logic in a compact desktop format, featuring a transformer output and a selection of components (Nichicon and Vishay capacitors) aimed at reliability and consistent sonic quality over time.

Who It's For and What It's For: Vocals, Instruments, and Clean Direct Recordings

This 1-channel preamp is designed for anyone wanting to secure quality at the source: singers, podcasters, content creators, as well as musicians and engineers who regularly record guitar, bass, synths, or drum machines. The Hi-Z input (6.3 mm Jack) allows feeding the preamp stage with an impedance suited for passive pickups and instruments, while the 3-pin XLR mic input covers classic studio microphones. The balanced 6.3 mm Jack output easily integrates with an audio interface, mixing console, patchbay, or recorder, maintaining a good signal-to-noise ratio and a robust connection.

Key Features: Control, Musicality, and Studio Ergonomics

Gain, Headroom, and Source Management

With 60 dB of gain, you have enough range to adapt levels for various recording situations. The -10 dB pad is especially useful on already hot sources (active DI, external preamps upstream, very sensitive microphones, or close percussion) to avoid input clipping and preserve comfortable headroom during adjustment.

Front Panel Switching: Fast and Reassuring

The front controls gather essentials for quick work: phantom power for condenser microphones, phase inversion to correct polarity issues during multi-mic setups or mic + DI blending, and Hi-Z mode to adapt the input for instruments. The backlit VU meter completes the package: it facilitates input level adjustment and helps maintain healthy dynamics before your audio interface conversion (or any dynamic processing).

Transformer Output and Selected Components

The transformer-coupled output stage is a favored choice in recording: it contributes to a solid reproduction, often perceived as more "grounded" in the low end and more coherent on transients, especially for vocals, bass, and guitars. The use of Nichicon and Vishay capacitors aligns with a philosophy focused on stability and long-term durability. Finally, the frequency response of 10 - 30,000 Hz passes the useful energy and air of recordings while providing a clean foundation for EQ and compression during mixing.

Desktop Format and Finishes

The compact design facilitates integration on a desk, within easy reach to adjust gain and check levels on the VU meter. The maple side panels provide a refined finish, ideal for a studio setup where ergonomics matter as much as sound.
