Second Generation: The Evolution of a Preamp Designed for Modern Recording

The Auteur MKII retains the DNA of the original model by maintaining a simple and effective approach: two channels, direct connectivity, and essential front-panel recording controls. This MKII version goes further on key studio aspects, featuring a 2nd generation preamp architecture designed to offer a wider frequency response and an overall quieter performance, with lower noise and less distortion than its predecessor.

The result is a preamp that keeps the "ready to record" spirit of the first generation while delivering a more controlled feel on transients, dynamics, and clarity. The Edcor transformer-coupled output stages complete this evolution by adding a touch of "vintage" character without complicating usage.

Intended Uses and Studio Profiles

The Auteur MKII is aimed at those seeking a 2-channel mic preamp capable of handling varied sessions: demanding home studios, mobile setups, recording racks, or channel expansion to complement an audio interface. Its gain up to 65 dB facilitates pairing with many microphones, while its dedicated front-panel controls speed up setup during recording.

With two channels, it is especially practical for recording vocals and an instrument simultaneously, making stereo takes, or keeping a backup chain ready to use. The switchable 48 V phantom power per channel allows quick switching between condenser and dynamic microphones without sacrificing ergonomics.

Key Features: Speed, Control, and Character

High-Speed Input Stages: Natural Adaptation to Sources

The Auteur MKII's ultra-fast input stages are designed to respond precisely to level changes and transients. This response speed helps preserve attack and definition, whether the source is soft and detailed or more percussive. Combined with a gain range of 14 to 65 dB, it makes adjustment more comfortable and gradual, even when pushing the preamp.

Edcor Output: A More "Vintage" Signature

The Edcor transformer-coupled outputs provide subtle coloration that can add density and a more organic feel to the recording while maintaining a control level suitable for modern recording environments. This is a relevant choice if you appreciate musical reproduction with a slight grain, without losing the precision needed for mixing.

Essential Studio Controls on the Front Panel

Each channel features its own gain control and recording-oriented functions: switchable 48 V phantom power (independent), phase inversion, and a 10 dBu pad. These tools are essential for quickly managing an overly strong source, correcting polarity in multi-mic setups, or optimizing the level sent to your converters and monitoring chain.

Simple and Reliable Connectivity, Compact Rack Format

The Auteur MKII offers clear connectivity for immediate integration: XLR inputs and balanced TRS line outputs on channels 1 and 2. Its 1U half-rack chassis facilitates installation in a studio rack, touring flight case, or compact setup while maintaining a readable front panel and accessible controls.
