What Blue Cat StereoScope Pro Is For
Blue Cat StereoScope Pro is a professional analysis plug-in designed to monitor, understand, and master the stereo image of an audio signal. It is suited for both mixing and mastering: checking stereo width, panorama coherence, bass stability in the center, and quickly spotting risks of phase cancellation or mono energy loss. It is a valuable tool for comparing multiple takes, validating an effects chain, or bringing your mix closer to a reference by precisely observing a track's "stereo signature."
Main Features
Three visualization modes for immediate reading
Adapt the display to your task: stereo image for direct reading of the stereo field, stereogram to observe evolution over time (in 2D or 3D), and an output parameters view that translates the stereo image into explicit values (position and width). This approach multiplies analysis angles and speeds up decisions, especially when correcting panoramas, widening effects, or reverb/delay ambiances.
3D "waterfall" view: the stereo image over time, in depth
The 3D waterfall mode allows detailed visualization of the stereo field's evolution with a solid or wireframe surface, and full 3D control. Very useful for spotting intermittent phenomena: overly aggressive widening on certain passages, stereo instabilities on choirs, or width changes linked to automation.
Precise measurements, animated zoom, and comparable curves
Displays are zoomable with animation, facilitating fine inspection of critical areas. You have instantaneous, peak, and average curves to understand both transient behavior and overall trends. The 4 memory slots allow saving curves for quick A/B comparisons between multiple tracks, settings, or even between your mix and a reference track.
Mono compatibility, correlation, and phase diagnostics
StereoScope Pro includes a correlation meter and reading tools designed to easily detect phase cancellations. You identify risky sources faster (wideners, doubles, spaced mics, chorus), and validate your mix's robustness when played in mono (smartphones, clubs, connected speakers, broadcast).
Automation and MIDI output: an analyzer that becomes a controller
Beyond display, the plug-in can generate automation curves or send MIDI CC messages from its output parameters: minimum/maximum position in the stereo field and perceived position based on energy distribution. A powerful solution to create dynamic interactions (e.g., adjusting processing based on the actual signal width), while maintaining a clean workflow via your DAW's automation.
Pro workflow: customizable interface, optimized CPU, host integration
Thanks to interface customization (transparency and zoom) and opacity management, you adapt StereoScope Pro to your working environment. The plug-in also offers a set of production-oriented standards: MIDI Learn, full automation support, Smooth Bypass (noise-free activation/deactivation), Undo/Redo, preset manager, and copy/paste state between instances. Finally, CPU load is optimized: no processing when the signal is silent.

Questions frequently asked
Is Blue Cat Audio StereoScope Pro compatible with Mac and Windows?
Compatibility covers macOS 10.9 or later on Intel or Apple Silicon processors. On Windows, Vista, 7, 8, and 10 systems are supported, with an SSE2 processor such as Pentium 4 or newer. All supported sampling rates are accepted.
How to check phase issues and mono compatibility of a mix?
The correlation meter helps identify phase cancellations and risks of energy loss during mono listening, especially with stereo wideners or spaced microphones.
What displays are available for analyzing the stereo image?
Three displays are offered: stereo image, stereogram, and output parameters. The stereogram can track changes over time in 2D or 3D waterfall views, with solid surface or wireframe modes.
Can multiple settings or a reference be compared with StereoScope Pro?
Four memory slots allow saving stereo image curves. The instantaneous, peak, and average curves facilitate comparisons between tracks, settings, or reference titles.
Can StereoScope Pro send MIDI or automation data?
Output parameters can be recorded as automation curves or sent as MIDI CC messages. The data notably concerns the minimum and maximum positions within the stereo field, as well as the position based on energy distribution.
