Summary of This Score

"One World" addresses a fractured world, marked by the rise of populism, modern scourges, climate change, human trafficking, the violation of fundamental human rights, terrorism, and war. Against this backdrop, the work asserts a vision of a peaceful and egalitarian planet, supported by the strength of the collective and the alliance of voices and orchestra.

A text from the exhibition particularly summarizes the spirit of the work around the expression "Tikkun Olam," which means "repairing the world" in Hebrew: a notion of responsibility towards creation, here musically translated through expansive and expressive choral writing. The literary material, deliberately eclectic, connects sacred traditions and the words of committed authors, creating a dialogue between the Bible, the Hindu Gayatri Mantra, the poetry of Percy Bysshe Shelley, the writings of African-American abolitionist Frances Harper (circa 1850), and the texts of Lebanese-American writer Kahlil Gibran.

Designed for soloists, choir, and orchestra, the score highlights timbral contrasts, choral masses, and musical narration, while maintaining Karl Jenkins' inimitable style. The work was recorded on Decca by Lucy Crowe (soprano), Kathryn Rudge (mezzo-soprano), Roderick Williams (baritone), the World Choir for Peace, The Stay At Home Choir, and the World Orchestra for Peace, conducted by Karl Jenkins.
