Boss NS-1X: what is the difference between Gate and Reduction modes?

Gate mode provides a fast and sharp cutoff, suitable for high-gain riffs and clean stops. Reduction mode works more transparently on amplifier hiss and chain noise.

How to connect the NS-1X Send/Return loop?

The loop uses 6.35 mm SEND and RETURN jacks. Gain pedals or the noisiest section of the pedalboard can be placed in this loop. The signal is thus processed at the source before the OUTPUT 6.35 mm jack.

Does the pedal run on battery?

A 9 V alkaline 6LR61 battery provides about 6.5 hours of continuous use, depending on conditions.

Does the noise gate preserve sustain and dynamics?

The Decay setting determines the speed of return to silence, allowing adjustment between extended sustain and quick cutoff. The Damp control helps avoid too abrupt a response depending on the setup.
