A noise gate designed like a dedicated amp channel

The Revv G8 is not just a generic "noise suppressor": it adopts the approach of the noise reducer integrated into the Generator 120 MK3 amp, with a performance-oriented philosophy. The goal is clear: to keep a lively and dynamic sound while locking out background noise when you push the gain, stack saturations, or use complex setups (analog, digital, or hybrid).

Within the Revv range, the G8 positions itself as a compact and intuitive solution, ready to integrate into a modern pedalboard. It aims for a "studio" result on stage: clean pauses, sharp attacks, and a musical rendering even with demanding settings.

Who is the Revv G8 for, and in what contexts does it make a difference?

The G8 is aimed both at intermediate guitarists who want to finally tame hiss and at experienced musicians seeking precise gating without artificial effects. It particularly shines in modern rock, metal, djent, and all styles where clean stops, staccatos, and breaks must remain pristine.

In live settings, it secures your sound when the stage, lighting, or power supply make the chain more sensitive to noise. In the studio, it facilitates recording by eliminating hum and gain residues between phrases without forcing you to "over-cut" and lose naturalness. On a pedalboard, it is equally relevant upstream of heavy distortion as in a dedicated loop to treat only the noisiest section.

Controls, loop, and tuning philosophy

The Revv G8 relies on three simple but very effective controls. The Threshold determines at what level the gate opens: you can set it transparently so your playing remains intact, or tighten it for very marked silences in high gain. The Hold lets you manage how long the gate stays open after the attack: useful to prevent certain notes from being "cut off" too early, especially on fast and palm-muted passages. Finally, the Release controls the closing speed, allowing you to switch from a sharp cutoff to a more gradual and natural closure.

The presence of a Send/Return loop is a major asset: you can place the noisiest elements there (certain distortions, fuzz, preamps, boosts) so the G8 acts precisely where needed. You can also create a side chain: in practice, part of the signal triggers the opening/closing while another part is processed, improving precision and playing feel in certain configurations.

Regarding integration, the pedal is in true bypass to preserve a clear and direct signal when disabled. The top-mounted inputs and outputs simplify wiring and optimize space on the pedalboard, especially when using multiple compact-format pedals.

Sound signature

The Revv G8's signature is a noise reduction that remains musical. It preserves pick attack and respects dynamics, allowing you to keep an "amp-like" feel under your fingers. With moderate settings, it cleans up hiss without giving the impression of a squashed sound or an audible gate opening and closing.

With stricter settings, the G8 becomes a real weapon for high gain tones: drier palm-mutes, cleaner stops, and a tightness that highlights right-hand precision. The Threshold / Hold / Release trio helps find the balance point between silence and breathing: you can achieve ultra-tight gating for modern riffs while retaining enough naturalness for sustain, bends, and held chords.
