Waza Craft SD-1W: the classic SD-1 taken to the "next level"
The SD-1W Super Overdrive is part of the Waza Craft range, a series dedicated to BOSS pedals crafted with special attention to discrete analog circuits, component selection, and sound optimization. The goal is clear: to preserve the DNA that made BOSS compact pedals successful, while offering a more inspiring and refined version for demanding musicians.
With its Standard mode, the SD-1W respects the historic grain of the SD-1. The Custom mode opens a new playing field: more gain possibilities, a different response under the fingers, and a tone that allows transitioning from a simple boost to a more pronounced overdrive, all while remaining musical.
For whom, for which styles, and in what context?
The BOSS SD-1W targets guitarists who want a versatile overdrive that is immediately usable, from beginners (simple settings, quick results) to experienced musicians seeking a pedal responsive to guitar volume and pick attack. It naturally fits in blues, rock, pop, classic rock, and also works very well as a boost to tighten attack and highlight playing in a band context.
In the studio, it facilitates layering guitars thanks to a grain that remains clear. Live, its compact size and robustness make it a reliable choice. On a pedalboard, it works well before distortion (to push and shape) as well as the main drive on a clean or slightly crunchy channel.

Questions frequently asked
What is the difference between the Standard and Custom modes on the Boss SD-1W?
The Standard mode reproduces the original tone of the SD-1. The Custom mode provides more gain and a different response to picking attack. The switch allows tailoring the overdrive to the guitar or amplifier.
Can it be used as a boost before distortion?
It can be placed before a distortion pedal to push the next stage and tighten the attack. The LEVEL control sets the output level sent to the amp or the next pedal.
What power supply is needed for this pedal?
The pedal requires 9 V power through the DC IN jack. A PSA series power adapter is available as an option.
Is the SD-1W suitable for blues and rock?
This overdrive is recommended for blues, rock, pop, and classic rock. The DRIVE, TONE, and LEVEL controls adjust the amount of overdrive, brightness, and output volume.
What are the connections and dimensions?
Connections include a 6.35 mm INPUT jack and OUTPUT jack, plus a DC IN power input. The enclosure measures 73 x 129 x 59 mm and weighs 430 g with the battery. The CHECK indicator shows when the pedal is active and the battery level.
