A delay designed to get straight to the point in the AFX range

With the AFX EchoBack Mini Delay, Fishman offers a pragmatic approach to delay: a reduced size, immediate handling, and settings focused on musical use. While some delays multiply menus and modes, the EchoBack focuses on the essentials to let you concentrate on playing. This positioning makes it an easy pedal to integrate into any setup, complementing overdrive, distortion, or reverb without complicating your effects chain.

For whom, for which styles, and in what contexts?

This delay pedal is aimed at guitarists who want an immediately usable echo, whether you are a beginner (intuitive settings) or advanced (quick effect adjustment between songs). In blues and rock, it excels for slapback and short repeats that add dimension to leads. In pop and indie, it enhances the "wide" aspect of an arpeggio, especially on a slightly compressed clean tone.

In live settings, its mini format and true bypass make it an excellent "always-ready" pedal: a quick tweak of Level and Delay, and you adapt your sound space to the venue. In studio, it helps position the guitar in the mix without overloading the playing, especially with moderate repeats and a well-balanced effect level.

Settings, ergonomics, and integration into your pedalboard

The AFX EchoBack Mini Delay offers three fundamental controls. Level adjusts the effect volume (the presence of repeats in the mix). Delay sets the time between each repeat, from short, percussive echo to more laid-back delay. Repeats controls the number of repeats: light to thicken a sound, more pronounced for longer echo tails.

Its mini format encourages direct use: you find your sounds quickly, without navigation or hidden parameters. Regarding the effects chain, place it generally after distortions (overdrive, distortion, fuzz) to keep repeats clean and clear. For a more vintage and textured sound, some guitarists prefer placing it before a slight distortion so that echoes blend and "grain" over the repeats.

The sound

The EchoBack Mini Delay's sonic signature is characterized by a clear and musical delay, designed to sit naturally under the direct signal. With moderate settings, the effect adds depth without muddying the attack, which works very well on chord rhythms and double-stop lines. Increasing the Repeats gives a more present echo bed, useful for thickening a solo or creating a simple but effective atmosphere.

The pedal responds convincingly to playing dynamics: a sharper attack stands out more, while softer playing lets the echo blend subtly. This is a real asset for guitarists who like to control their expressiveness with a pick or fingers, without relying on complex settings.
