A clever extension of the Prodige range, by Buffet Crampon

With the Pocket Clarinet, Buffet Crampon completes its Prodige study range by offering an astonishing instrument designed to bring students closer to the sensations of a single-reed instrument "like the pros." Resulting from several years of research and development in partnership with a dedicated laboratory, it combines the brand's manufacturing excellence with a more accessible and playful approach. The choice of a grenadilla body (Dalbergia melanoxylon) contributes to this goal: providing a true musical experience in a more compact format.

Who is it for, and in which styles?

The Buffet Crampon Pocket Clarinet Prodige is primarily aimed at young beginners and students in the discovery phase, especially those wishing to familiarize themselves with the embouchure, breath control, and reed vibration. It is also suitable for musicians seeking a practical instrument to carry for working on attack, tone control, and intonation. Its approach naturally remains focused on learning, with an ideal playground for school music, home practice, and first melodies (traditional repertoire, songs, classical initiation).

Sound and design

The sound comes from a Bb clarinet mouthpiece fitted with a single reed, then resonates through a grenadilla body, a wood known for its density and response. Special care is given to the bore and the positioning of the tone holes to maintain easy sound production and consistent intonation across the range. Ergonomically, its "pocket" size and light weight facilitate handling, while the silver adjustable thumb rest improves stability and helps the student build a posture close to that of a traditional Bb clarinet. The presence of rubber elements on the body and bell finishes enhances everyday practicality.

Recommended compatible accessories

The instrument comes with a mouthpiece, reed, ligature, mouthpiece cap, swab, grease tube, and case, so the essentials are already included to get started. To complement without risk, you can add Bb clarinet reeds (the same reed family as the instrument uses), as well as a replacement swab cloth for regular maintenance.
