A Modulated Reverb Designed as a Vintage Hybrid

The Sinkhole belongs to the family of effects that deliberately blur the line between organic and modern: a reverb with a very present harmonic grain, combined with deep modulation, evoking the spirit of vintage analog-digital hybrids. Here, the goal is not just to add space, but to bring the reverb tail to life continuously, to the point where the modulated note seems to hang "infinitely" when you push the settings.

For Whom and Which Styles?

The Catalinbread Sinkhole is aimed at guitarists (and more broadly all instrumentalists using a pedalboard) who want a textured reverb rather than just a background ambiance. It is particularly comfortable in ambient, post-rock, shoegaze, indie, psychedelic rock, but also remains musical in more "traditional" contexts if you dial in the Mix and reverb time appropriately.
In the studio, it excels at creating wide soundscapes and guitar layers without needing to stack multiple pedals. Live, the internal bypass choice allows adapting the handling of reverb tails: either a clean stop for tight transitions or trails that keep sounding after you turn off the effect.

Creative Controls and Adjustment Logic

The Sinkhole offers a straightforward interface designed to quickly sculpt depth and movement. The heart of the pedal is the Verb (decay time) and Mix (wet/dry blend) duo, which sets the size of the space and its place in your sound. The Mod control adjusts the chorus modulation speed, ranging from a subtle shimmer to a more pronounced oscillation.
The Fdbck control goes beyond a simple "depth": it manages the amount of feedback in the chorus circuit and the modulation depth, opening up very unique textures. At low settings, you get subtle relief. Pushed further, the modulation can become more "filtered," with comb filter effects, or sensations close to a phaser or auto-filter. Finally, the Vol control adjusts the gain of the built-in preamp: useful to compensate for a very wet reverb or to use the pedal as a clean boost for a passage.
A high-pass filter is also included: ideal for keeping the lows clean and preventing long reverb tails from cluttering the low end, especially with humbucker pickups or low tunings.

The Sound

The Sinkhole's sonic signature is a dense and harmonic reverb, whose tail is colored by deep movement thanks to the 4-voice chorus. The result can be very elegant (subtle chorus, moderate reverb) or fully immersive when you stretch the reverb and increase feedback: the pedal then produces pads that seem to fold in on themselves, with modulation that catches the ear.
The dynamics remain pleasant to play: on attack, the signal retains presence, then the space unfolds behind the note. This pedal rewards playing with guitar volume and nuances, quickly becoming a sound design tool to create transitions, floating intros, or thicken a lead without falling into a too "flat" reverb.
