A Modern Signature at the Heart of the Sleep Token Universe
This signature bass pays tribute to the playing style of III, bassist of Sleep Token, whose approach alternates between percussive precision, massive foundations, and more melodic lines. The model captures the sharp and direct spirit of the San Dimas platform while adapting it to the demands of an extended five-string range and the needs of a modern stage bassist.
Within the lineup, this Pro-Mod clearly positions itself as a high-performance instrument. It doesn't just aim to replicate an artist's aesthetic: it offers a true contemporary interpretation of the electric bass, with active electronics, craftsmanship designed for stability, and ergonomics optimized for demanding styles.
A 5-String Bass Built for Demanding Bassists
The Charvel Sleep Token III Signature Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass V is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced musicians seeking a precise, stable instrument capable of handling low tunings, tight palm mutes, and sharp attacks both with a pick and fingers. Its format remains accessible, but its potential is fully expressed in the hands of a bassist who exploits playing nuances and onboard electronics.
It naturally fits into modern metal, djent, progressive, alternative, and all aesthetics where the bass must both support the mix and stand out as a voice in its own right. Thanks to its three voicings and active EQ, it can also cover more atmospheric, cleaner, or fusion registers with ease both in the studio and on stage.
Precise, Tight, and Highly Versatile Low End
The poplar body provides a balanced response, offering a good compromise between warmth, clarity, and controlled weight. Combined with the caramelized maple neck and fingerboard, it promotes a fast attack, clear transients, and precise note definition-even when tuning or playing heavily stresses the low string. This combination delivers a firm low register without sacrificing midrange articulation.
The multi-scale scale length from 34.4" to 35.5" / 874 to 902 mm plays a central role here. The low string benefits from better-managed tension, improving intonation, low-end clarity, and percussive impact, while the higher strings maintain a more natural, flexible feel. The result is highly convincing for syncopated riffs, technical runs, and dry attacks that require both precision and sustain.
On the electronics side, the HH configuration with two Fishman Fluence Bass Soapbar pickups opens up a very wide tonal range. These pickups are known for their definition, low noise, and ability to retain detail under heavy saturation. The 3-position mini-toggle switch provides access to three distinct voicings, significantly changing the instrument's character: a clearer, hi-fi sound for airy passages; a denser, more biting voice for guitar walls; or a rougher response to emphasize the playing's grain.
The volume knob, pickup balance control, and Fishman 2-band active EQ then allow precise tone shaping. The bass control helps reinforce the low-end foundation without muddying the mix, while the treble adjustment lets you dial in presence, snap, and clarity. This bass is therefore equally convincing for modern heavy tones and for more surgical, nuanced sound crafting.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain the original feel, the most natural replacement is a set of 5-string bass strings in gauge .045-.130, identical to the factory-installed set. The included Charvel Deluxe gig bag already provides a suitable and practical transport solution to protect the instrument daily.
