Summary of This Method

Designed with the help of instrument teachers, this musical training method through the orchestra offers a less abstract learning experience, where solfège gains meaning through direct contact with instrumental playing. The student progresses by associating reading, rhythm, singing, and listening with concrete situations: performed scores, adapted songs, duets, and instrumental practices. This approach promotes better analysis of the pieces studied while developing autonomy and confidence.

The approach emphasizes oral skills before written ones to build a finer ear and solid musical understanding. Hearing multiple instruments on common scores enriches auditory training while providing references for intonation, balance, and phrasing. Collective instrumental practice, at the heart of the course, also helps the student to project themselves towards ensembles in conservatories or music schools as soon as their level allows.

Each volume of Symphonic FM is organized around two complementary materials: a student book (chosen according to the instrument played) and a teacher's book. Starting from volume 5, the presentation of the student books evolves for reasons of density and practicality: a main workbook gathers content common to all instruments, complemented by a separate section specific to each instrument, including instrumental duets, instrumental versions of songs, and instrumental practices. Thus, the student now chooses the workbook corresponding to their instrument.
