A Faithful Reissue of a 1970s Classic

The 3699 Fuzz is a modern reinterpretation of a cult octave fuzz designed in the early 1970s by Steve Ridinger. The concept remains the same: a generous fuzz, rich in harmonics, capable of transforming into a solo machine thanks to an upper octave. Danelectro captures the spirit of the original circuit and adapts it for contemporary use, with more practical choices for the stage and some voicing adjustments.

The result: the wild and expressive nature of the effect is preserved, while gaining a more present octave, a warmer overall sound, and especially a Mid Boost designed to compensate for the typical mid scoop of some vintage fuzzes.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

The Danelectro 3699 Fuzz is aimed at guitarists who want a fuzz with personality, yet controllable enough to fit into a modern pedalboard. It suits both intermediate players (immediate settings) and experienced musicians seeking a signature effect for riffs and leads.

It excels in garage rock, psychedelic, blues rock, stoner, and any style requiring texture. In the studio, it provides dense harmonics and strong presence. Live, the footswitch octave and Mid Boost allow switching from a fuzz wall to a cutting solo without adjusting amp settings.

Controls, Switching, and Highlights

The pedal goes straight to the point: Volume to adjust output level, Fuzz to control saturation (from gritty attack to thick sustain), and Tone to brighten or darken the high end. A mini-switch Stock / Mid Boost alters the midrange balance: Stock mode offers a more vintage curve, while Mid Boost enhances presence to better cut through a band mix.

On the performance side, the 2 footswitches make the effect very usable: one controls main activation, the other toggles the Octave-Up on demand. This is ideal for building dynamic arrangements or instantly turning a fuzz riff into a sharper lead voice.

Sound

The 3699 Fuzz delivers a meaty, warm, and highly harmonic fuzz with a typical vintage circuit compression feel, yet without completely losing dynamics: lowering the guitar volume recovers definition and tames aggressiveness. The Octave-Up adds a brighter, more pronounced upper halo, perfect for high-neck lines, double stops, and solos that need to "sing."

The Mid Boost is key for the stage: it prevents the fuzz from disappearing behind drums and bass, especially with humbuckers or amps already heavy on lows. In short, it's an old-school fuzz designed to remain clear and useful in a modern mix.
