What Motion Filter Is For
Motion Filter is designed to inject movement and dynamics into your mixes and sound designs. It advantageously replaces a static filter to bring pads, vocals, guitars, or percussion to life, and can become a central effect for creating transitions, builds, and drops without relying on automation. In sidechain mode, it reacts to a source like the kick drum to sculpt the rhythmic space.
Main Features
Two complementary motion engines
The "Sweeper" mode follows the signal dynamics via an envelope follower for organic movements that lock to the groove. The "LFO" mode applies tempo-synchronizable patterns based on smooth or stepped waveforms for precise repetitive effects.
Precise filter path control
Set the "Start" and "End" points for frequency, lock their ratio with "Freq Lock," and invert the trajectory via "Filter Flip." Slopes up to 96 dB/octave offer soft or surgical shaping as needed.
Expressive and dynamic resonance
Choose between "Regular" or "Dynamic" resonance. In dynamic mode, set start and end values to emphasize movement around the cutoff without unwanted harshness.
Workflow designed for speed
Activatable tooltips guide the learning curve. Dry/wet mix, bypass, and output gain allow instant effect integration without automation overload.

Questions frequently asked
Is Denise Audio Motion Filter compatible with macOS and Windows?
Compatibility covers macOS 10.11 or later, with Apple Silicon support, as well as Windows 10 or later.
How does the Sweeper mode work on this filter?
Sweeper mode drives the filter movement based on the incoming signal dynamics. An external sidechain can trigger the envelope follower. Detection can operate in stereo sum or dual mono.
Can the filter be synced to the project tempo?
In LFO mode, modulation patterns sync to the host BPM and use a configurable waveform, either smooth or more stepped.
What types of filters and slopes are available?
Four responses are offered: low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch. Filter slopes range from 12 to 96 dB/octave.
How to adjust resonance and movement direction?
Resonance offers Regular or Dynamic mode, with the latter allowing definition of start and end values. Start and End points frame the frequency range, while Freq Lock maintains their ratio. Filter Flip reverses the movement direction.
