The Caribou: a distinctive personality from Duesenberg

The Duesenberg Caribou is designed for guitarists looking for a distinctive instrument, both in its aesthetics and its response. Its solid alder body houses large resonance chambers without adopting the construction of a fully hollow guitar. The Cat-Eye sound hole, cream binding and three-level geometric-pattern hardware give it an immediately recognisable identity.

The flat top varies according to the finishing: it is made of maple on the Narvik Blue and Black versions, and swamp ash on the Butterscotch version. This construction places the Caribou at the crossroads of two sensations: the directness of a solid-body electric guitar and the openness associated with partially hollow instruments.

An electric guitar for exploring a range of styles

The Caribou is a compelling choice for intermediate and experienced musicians who want to move from nuanced clean tones to a more assertive rock register without changing instruments. Jazz, blues, pop, funk and rock each have their place in its tonal palette. The P90 at the neck lends itself to expressive phrases, while the humbucker at the bridge adds density to riffs and solos.

The Medium D profile, 12-inch / 305 mm radius and Jumbo frets provide a playing surface suited to both chords and bends. Plek fret levelling is complemented by manual polishing and setup. This work ensures an even response across the neck, useful for precise accompaniment as well as melodic passages.

An open voice, precise pickups and expressive vibrato

The large cavities routed into the alder reduce the body's weight and contribute to its open response. The Caribou retains a direct attack, with a less compact feel than a fully solid construction. The set maple neck and steel-saddle bridge complete this design, developed to convey the nuances of your playing while maintaining good note sustain.

At the neck, the Domino P90 delivers a creamy, articulate texture: chords remain clear and individual notes have a warm presence. At the bridge, the GrandVintage Humbucker has a classic humbucker voice—denser, yet sufficiently defined to remain intelligible in a mix. Together, they cover both clean tones and overdriven sounds.

The 3-way selector does more than simply combine these two characters. In the middle position, special wiring filters out some of the humbucker's low frequencies. The result is more open, particularly well suited to funk rhythms and chords that need to retain space. A volume and tone control provide straightforward adjustment of the level and brightness.

The Diamond Deluxe Tremola, presented here in its short version, complements subtle vibrato and melodic inflections with a smooth action. Its needle bearings and nylon bushings promote a fluid response, while the arm can pivot 360 degrees and be adjusted for angle and length. Passing the strings through the openings in the bar makes replacement easier. The nickel-plated hardware naturally develops a patina; regular cleaning helps preserve its shine.

Recommended compatible accessories

To retain the original string gauge, we recommend Duesenberg Custom 010/050 strings. For rigid protection, the Duesenberg Custom Line Case for Caribou is available separately and is designed for this model. As the Custom Line Bag and the necessary Allen keys are already included, you have an immediate transport solution and the adjustment tools intended for the instrument.
