A compact reissue of a 60s classic
The FFM2 Germanium is inspired by the "pre-silicon" Fuzz Face models from the 1966-1968 period, renowned for their thick saturation, natural softness, and very organic response to playing. This Mini version retains the ultra-simple philosophy of the original (two controls, one footswitch), while adopting a more modern and practical size for integration into current setups. The model was announced as available from February 2013.
Who is the FFM2 for, and in which styles does it make a difference?
This analog fuzz is aimed at all guitarists who want an expressive and lively effect, from beginners seeking a first vintage sound to enthusiasts looking for a characterful fuzz to complete a pedalboard. It excels in blues, classic rock, psychedelic, garage, and anything requiring generous saturation that "sticks" to the notes.
In the studio, it provides an immediately identifiable texture to double rhythms, thicken a riff, or highlight a lead. Live, its compact size and straightforward operation make it an ideal ally: set it, switch it on, and play.
Simple controls, musical results
The Fuzz Face Mini FFM2 goes straight to the point with two potentiometers: Fuzz to adjust the saturation level and density, and Volume to set the output level to drive the amp as you wish. The on/off switch is accompanied by a status LED, handy on stage.
Regarding connectivity, it includes the essentials: a 6.35mm Jack input and a 6.35mm Jack output. The true bypass preserves your tone when the pedal is off, an important feature if you build a pedalboard oriented towards vintage sounds but demanding clarity.
The sound
The FFM2 Germanium delivers a warm, round, and harmonically rich fuzz, with that slightly "spongy" and creamy character that makes germanium circuits charming. It can be massive on a riff but also surprisingly nuanced: by adjusting pick attack and especially the guitar's volume knob, you can go from a full, velvety fuzz to a lighter, almost clean drive, all while maintaining a dynamic feel under the fingers.
This type of fuzz has influenced generations of guitarists: it is associated with legendary sounds from artists like Jimi Hendrix or David Gilmour, the absolute reference for vintage, thick, and expressive textures.

Questions frequently asked
What sound does the Dunlop Fuzz Face Mini Germanium produce?
Its analog germanium circuit delivers a warm and round fuzz, rich in harmonics. The attack response maintains a smooth character, particularly suited for blues, garage, and psychedelic textures.
Can the guitar volume be used to clean up the sound?
Lowering the guitar’s volume knob allows transitioning from a dense fuzz to a lighter drive, almost clean. This variation retains dynamic sensitivity to playing.
What controls are available?
Two knobs are present: Fuzz adjusts the amount of saturation and Volume controls the output level. An on/off footswitch and a status LED complete the controls. No other effects are integrated into the pedal.
What power supply is required for this fuzz?
The required power supply is 9 V DC, with a consumption of 3.4 mA. A 9 V battery can also be used. No power supply is included.
Is the FFM2 Germanium equipped with true bypass?
True bypass is provided to preserve the signal when the effect is off. The input and output each use a 6.35 mm jack.
