An Epiphone Icon Born in the Late 1950s
Introduced in 1958, the Coronet was one of the first solid-body electric guitars designed by Epiphone. Its minimalist design, all-mahogany construction and single pickup quickly gave it a strong identity: a no-frills guitar designed to deliver a direct attack and a clearly defined sonic character.
This modern version retains the visual and technical elements that made the original Coronets so appealing. It combines a symmetrical body inspired by the Wilshire, a comfortable double-cutaway design, a three-sided Kalamazoo headstock with an Epiphone Bikini badge, and a white butterfly pickguard adorned with an aluminium E logo. The result preserves the model’s vintage spirit while offering ergonomics suited to today’s guitarists.
An Expressive Electric for Rock, Blues and Vintage Sounds
The Epiphone Coronet is particularly suited to advanced beginners, intermediate and experienced guitarists looking for a simple, inspiring electric guitar with a distinctive personality. Its single pickup and two controls let you focus on your playing, attack and volume nuances rather than on a multitude of electronic combinations.
It will naturally find its place in vintage rock, garage rock, punk, electric blues, indie rock and certain styles of alternative pop. Its double-cutaway design facilitates access to the upper frets, while the Medium C neck profile offers versatile playability, rounded enough for rhythm playing and comfortable enough for solos.
Thanks to its short 24.72-inch / 628 mm scale length, the Coronet provides a smooth, welcoming playing feel. Bends require less effort than on a guitar with a longer scale length, encouraging expressive vibrato, bluesy phrases and energetic riffs.
The Bite of a P-90, the Warmth of Mahogany
This guitar’s sonic personality is built around a particularly effective combination: a mahogany body, a glued-in mahogany neck and an Epiphone P-90 PRO Dogear pickup positioned at the bridge. Mahogany brings density to the midrange, pleasing roundness to the notes and appreciable natural sustain. The glued neck-to-body joint also contributes to the continuity of the vibrations.
The P-90 is a wide-format single-coil pickup, renowned for combining the clarity of a traditional single-coil pickup with the thickness of a humbucker. On the Coronet, it delivers incisive highs, rich mids and a lively attack. In clean tones, it retains definition and character; with overdrive or distortion, it produces generous, organic and edgy bite.
The volume control makes it easy to move from an open, punchy sound to a softer texture, while the tone control helps round off the highs depending on the amplifier or playing style. CTS potentiometers provide a smooth, precise response, making it easy to exploit the pickup’s full dynamics without losing the guitar’s raw, expressive character.
The compensated Wraparound Lightning Bar bridge combines the functions of bridge and tailpiece in a single piece. This design promotes direct contact with the body, immediate attack and solid sustain. The built-in compensation contributes to more consistent intonation across the neck while preserving the Coronet’s clean, effective aesthetics.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
The Coronet comes fitted with .010–.046 gauge strings, so a set of electric guitar strings with the same gauge is a reliable choice for maintaining the original playing feel and setup. For transport and protection, it can be paired with a dedicated gig bag, an EpiLite lightweight case or a hardshell case designed for this model. A standard guitar strap is also compatible thanks to the two strap buttons installed on the body, one of which is positioned beneath the heel.
