From the Futuristic Icon to the Futura Series: A Flying V Designed for 2026

The Flying V is one of the boldest designs in electric guitar history, born in the late 1950s and later adopted by generations of rock and metal guitarists. With the Futura Flying V Custom, Epiphone takes this iconic silhouette and propels it into a decidedly modern approach: "Custom" aesthetics (multi-ply binding, refined inlays) and performance-oriented technical choices. The Futura series emphasizes what guitarists expect today from a stage and recording instrument: comfort, reliability, and electronics flexible enough to cover multiple genres without changing guitars.

Who Is This Flying V Custom Futura For?

This Epiphone is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want a Flying V that is immediately "ready to gig": tuning stability, sustain, and usable settings in real situations. Its personality fits perfectly with modern rock, hard rock, metal, and alternative styles, but its tonal palette (split and phase) also makes it relevant for more nuanced genres: power pop, funk-rock, or indie, where one often switches from a clean verse to a saturated chorus. The Flying V format favors standing play, and the Posi-Lok strap buttons are a real plus for securing the instrument without adding extra hardware.

Sound and Character: Mahogany, Ignite Humbuckers, and Creative Electronics

The combination of a mahogany body and glued mahogany neck provides a distinctive tonal foundation: full mids, solid attack, and natural sustain, enhanced by the LockTone Tune-O-Matic and LockTone Stop Bar combo. The ebony fretboard offers a faster feel under the fingers and appreciable definition, especially when pushing the gain: notes remain clear, with harmonics that easily stand out.

The two Epiphone ProBucker Ignite humbuckers are designed to deliver a generous output level while maintaining clarity and precision. In distorted tones, you get a dense and articulate grain, ideal for tight riffs and singing leads. In clean tones, the dynamic range and definition help avoid the "muddy" effect sometimes associated with powerful humbuckers. This is where the electronics become central: the push/pull volume controls offer coil split for finer, snappier textures, while the push/pull tone control activates phase inversion for scooped, edgy tones, very effective in rhythm playing or to stand out in a mix.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

Each guitar comes with a premium gig bag, convenient for rehearsals and travel. To maintain tuning stability and playing precision, an electric string set suited to your usual gauge will be appropriate, as well as a pick matching your attack style (stiffer for riffing, more flexible for rhythm playing). If you often play standing, make sure your strap is compatible with Posi-Lok style strap buttons.
