A G-3 Designed to Recapture the Impact of Green Day's Glory Years
Mike Dirnt, bassist and co-founder of Green Day, partnered with Epiphone to revive the spirit of the Gibson Grabber G-3 he used on stage and in the studio, notably during the "Dookie" era (1994). This Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 incorporates the aesthetic and technical codes of the original model, with a performance-focused approach: immediate feel under the fingers, effective controls, and electronics designed to remain clear in a dense rock mix.
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
This electric bass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a distinctive personality, as well as motivated beginners wanting a solid and lasting signature instrument. It excels in punk rock, alternative rock, power pop, and garage, but is also comfortable whenever precise and present low end is required. Its 34" / 863.6 mm scale length favors a sharp pick attack and a convincing foundation for fingerstyle playing.
Sound Characteristics
The maple body provides a quick response, good definition, and a natural presence in the midrange, ideal for cutting through a band mix. The trio of Gibson USA G-3 pickups (neck, middle, bridge) expands the tonal palette: the selector allows combining neck + middle or middle + bridge pickups with a humbucker-like effect, or activating all three pickups for a denser texture. With main volume and tone controls, you can quickly shift from a tight, percussive sound to a rounder bass tone, while maintaining clarity and excellent stability against interference.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
The instrument comes with a hard case, perfect for daily transport and protection.
